수학교육에서의 학생 주도성(student agency)에 대한 비판적 고찰

국문 초록

학교 교육의 현장에서 학생 주도성을 강조하는 수업이란 ‘학생이 수업의 주인이 되는 수업’, ‘학습과 평가에서 학생의 선택권이 강조되는 수업’ 등으로 해석되는 경향이 있다. 이러한 현상과 관련하여, 본 고는 미래 교육의 방향성으로 강조되는 ‘학생 주도성’의 의미를 다양한 각도에서 고찰하고, 나아가 학생 주도성을 함양하는 수학교육의 의미를 논의하는 데 목적을 두었다. 연구 결과, 많은 선행연구는 학생 주도성이 강조되는 수업의 의미를 단지 ‘학생이 주도(主導)’하는 수업으로 협소하게 해석하는 실태를 우려했으며, 그보다는 수업에서 agency의 본질적인 의미를 토대로 존재에 대한 주체적인 인식(존재성)과 사회와 공존하며 살아가는 성숙한 존재로서의 태도와 자세(성숙)가 강조되어야 한다고 주장하였다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 학생 주도성을 함양하는 수학교육의 의미와 방향성에 대한 시사점을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

In the context of school education, student agency-focused instruction is often understood as “a class where students take ownership of their learning” or “a class that emphasizes student choice in learning and assessment.” In response to this trend, this paper explores the concept of student agency, which is increasingly emphasized as a key direction for future education, from multiple perspectives. Furthermore, it aims to discuss the role of mathematics education in fostering student agency. The findings indicate that many researchers are concerned about the tendency to narrowly define student agency-centered instruction as simply student-led instruction. Instead, they argue that agency should be understood in its fundamental sense, emphasizing both students' self-awareness of their existence and their maturity in coexisting with society. Based on these findings, this paper explores the implications and potential future directions of mathematics education in fostering student agency.
