국문 초록

예이츠의 작품에서 반복적으로 나타나는 모티프인 변신(Metamorphosis)은 현실의 가혹함으로부터 위안을 제공한다. 아일랜드 유산에 뿌리를 두고 전설과 민간 전승에 둘러싸여 자란 예이츠는 변신을 상징적 탈출구로 활용하여, “The White Birds,” “Leda and the Swan,” “Sailing to Byzantium,” “The Old Age of Queen Maeve,” The Shadowy Waters 등의 작품을 통하여 덧없는 삶 속에서 영원한 사랑의 주제를 탐구한다. 본 논문은 예이츠의 변신 사용의 예를 분석하고, 존재의 덧없는 본질에 맞서는 그의 의도와 그 의미를 밝히는 것을 목표로 한다.

영문 초록

Metamorphosis, a recurring motif in Yeats’s work, offers solace from reality’s harshness. Rooted in his Irish heritage and growing up surrounded by legend and folklore, Yeats employs metamorphosis as a symbolic escape, exploring themes of eternal love amidst life’s transience in his works such as “The White Birds,” “Leda and the Swan,” “Sailing to Byzantium,” “The Old Age of Queen Maeve,” and The Shadowy Waters. This paper aims to explore Yeats’s use of metamorphosis, unraveling his intent and its significance in confronting the ephemeral nature of existence.
