국문 초록

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)는 가임기 여성의 5~25%에 영향을 미치는 흔한 내분비 및 생식 장애로, 호르몬 불균형과 배란 기능 장애, 안드로겐 과다로 인한 다양한 임상 증상을 동반하는 질환이다. 인슐린 저항성으로 인해 체중 증가와 대사 증후군의 위험이 증가하고 적절한 치료와 관리를 받지 못하면 불임, 제2형 당뇨병, 심혈관 질환, 자궁내막암 등의 합병증을 유발할 수 있는데, PCOS는 유전적, 환경적, 생활 습관적 요인이 복합적으로 작용하는 것으로 알려져 있어 조기 진단과 대사적, 기능의학적 접근을 비롯한 통합적 관리가 장기적인 건강을 위해 중요하다. PCOS 환자에서 20%에서 정상적인 월경주기를 보이는 경우도 있고 기능의학적 관점에서도 인슐린 저항성, 염증형, 부신 우세형, 피임제 복용 후 발생한 경우 등 유형이 다를 수 있어 PCOS 환자 개인적 상태에 맞춘 맞춤형 관리를 권장한다. 이를 위해 환자의 주된 징후와 증상에 따라 개별화하여 영양, 운동, 스트레스 관리, 생활 습관 개선 등을 권장한다.

영문 초록

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine and reproductive disorder that affects 5-25% of women of reproductive age. It is characterized by hormonal imbalances, ovulatory dysfunction, and various clinical symptoms due to excess androgen. Insulin resistance, the primary cause of PCOS, can lead to weight gain and an increased risk of metabolic syndrome, if patients do not receive proper treatment and care. Subsequent complications can lead to infertility, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, endometrial cancer, and more. PCOS is known to be caused by a combination of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors, so early diagnosis and integrated management, including metabolic and functional medicine approaches, are important for long-term health. There are several types of PCOS, each of which requires personalized management tailored to the individual's condition. Depending on the main signs and symptoms of PCOS, treatment may include nutrition, exercise, stress management, and lifestyle modifications.
