여성교육자 이동희(李東姬)의 유아교육사상 : 「어린이를 위한 어머니 강좌」를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 20세기 여성교육자 이동희가 연재했던 「어린이를 위한 어머니 강좌」의 글을 분석하여 그의 유아교육사상을 파악하고, 그 의의를 밝히는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 먼저 ‘「어린이를 위한 어머니 강좌」의 분석’에서는 『국제신문』에 1977년 5월 18일부터 11월 30일까지 연재한 총 24편의 이동희의 글을 형식적, 내용적 특징으로 구분하여 분석하였다. 다음으로 ‘이동희의 유아교육사상’에서는 이동희가 유아교육에 가진 문제의식과 연결하여 그의 교육사상을 유아교육이란 무엇인가, 유아를 어떠한 관점에서 보고, 어떻게 대해야 하는가, 유아를 어떻게 교육해야 하는가의 세 가지 질문을 통해 살펴보고자 하였다. 그리고 이동희의 유아교육사상을 토대로 그의 교육사상이 주는 ‘교육적 의의’에 대해 논의하였다. 본 연구에서 당시 이동희의 주된 비판은 영재교육, 특수교육이라는 목적하에 지나친 지적 교육에 집착하여 유아교육을 잘못된 방향으로 이끌고 있는 기성세대들의 교육 세태였다. 이동희는 이의 대안으로 지적, 신체적, 정의적, 사회적 능력 등이 고루 발달할 수 있는 전인교육에 목표를 두고, 교육의 대상인 유아의 인권을 존중하며, 자발성과 자율성에 토대를 둔 놀이 중심의 교육관을 제시하였다. 이러한 이동희의 교육사상은 이론보다는 교육 현장에 기반을 둔 실제적인 교육이라는 특징을 지닌다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to analyze the articles of Mother's Lecture for Children which was serialized by Donghee Lee, a female educator in the 20th century, to understand her early childhood educational thought and to reveal its significance. To this end, first, An Analysis of Mother's Lecture for Children, a total of 24 articles by Donghee Lee, which were serialized in the International Newspaper from May 18 to November 30, 1977, were analyzed by dividing them into formal and content characteristics. Next, in “Donghee Lee's Early Childhood Educational Thought”, we examined Donghee Lee's educational thoughts through three questions: 1. What is early childhood education? 2. How to view and treat young children? 3. How to educate young children? Based on Lee's early childhood educational thought, the significance of her educational thought is discussed. It was found that Donghee Lee criticized the educational system of the older generation, which was obsessed with excessive intellectual education veered toward gifted and special education, leading early childhood education in the wrong direction. As an alternative, Donghee Lee emphasized whole-person education, where intellectual, physical, affective, and social abilities can be evenly developed, respecting the human rights of young children, the subjects of education. She proposed play-oriented education based on spontaneity and autonomy. Donghee Lee's educational thought is characterized by practical education based on the educational field, rather than theory.
