한국어 핵억양 유형에 따른 태도 지각 양상 연구

국문 초록

본고의 주된 목적은 평서문 {-아/어}에서 나타나는 평탄 억양, 하강-상승 억양, 상승-하강 억양, 상승-하강-상승 억양, 하강-상승-하강 억양유형의 산출적 특성이 냉정, 친절, 짜증난 태도의 지각에 어떠한 차이를 보이는지 분석하는 것이다. 아울러 억양 유형이 태도 지각에 영향을 미치는지도 살펴보고자 한다. 각 5가지 억양 유형에 따른 냉정, 친절, 짜증난 태도로 지각되는지를 35명의 표준어를 구사하는 청자들에게 리커트 척도(7점)로 평가하게 하였다. 그 결과 청자들은 억양패턴이라는 단서를 사용하여 평탄 억양에서는 냉정한 태도, 하강-상승 억양에서는 친절한 태도, 상승-하강 억양, 상승-하강-상승 억양, 하강-상승-하강 억양에서는 짜증난 태도를 지각하였다. 본 논문을 통해서 핵억양에 따라 태도를 지각하는 주된 반응이 나타나 청자가 핵억양을 태도적 의미를 해석하는 단서로 사용함을 다시 한 번 확인하였고, 핵억양의 실현 양상에서 보이는 억양 유형이 지각적으로 어떻게 나타나는지를 밝혀 핵억양 유형에 따른 태도 지각 양상에 대한 실증적 자료를제공했다는 데에 연구 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

The main purpose of the present study was to analyze how different attitudes (such as cool, kind, and irritated) are perceived, based on five intonation patterns—level, falling-rising, rising-falling, rising-falling-rising, and falling-rising-falling—that appear in declarative sentences {-a/ʌ}. In addition, the influence of the intonation type on the perception of attitude was also investigated. 35 native Korean listeners used a 7-point Likert scale to evaluate the perception of cool, kind, and irritated attitude according to the five intonation types. The results showed that listeners used intonation patterns as clues and perceived level intonation as cool attitude; falling-rising intonation as kind attitude; and rising-falling, rising-falling-rising, and falling-rising- falling intonation as irritated attitude. The present study revealed that listeners use nuclear tones as a clue for interpreting attitudinal meaning. This study is significant as it provides empirical data on the perceptual aspects of attitude. Using to nuclear tone patterns, the study clarifies the perceptual realization of the type of intonation that is observed in the productive distribution of nuclear tones.
