영문 초록

Without any lexical meaning, the transformed there is often used as subject in a sentence. According to the standard theory in the transformational grammar, there doesn't exist in the deep structure but by insertion, it appears as subject in the surface structure. This transformed subject there is distinguished from the general traditional subject which appears both in deep structure and surface structure. The sentence including the transformed there is classified again as presentational there-construction and existential there-construction. This there-construction having preparatory there has some characteristics different from other subjects in agreement and other syntactic features. For example, generally the notional subject should be the indefinite NP in there-constructions. And the constructions which are available of there-insertion are limited as the intransitive verbs. While there in there-insertion appears in the subject place, at the beginning of the sentence, there derived from embedding sentence appears in the position of object place. The NP after there-insertion can get relative pronoun clause. In this condition, the predicate consists of be + adjective, and the adjective represents ephemeral property, and the relative pronoun can be canceled. Besides these characteristics, some other syntactic and lexical features are listed in this article. And some proofs that preparatory there should be considered as pronominal subject and some constraints appeared in there-constructions are investigated.
