읽기부진 아동을 위한 통합 파닉스 접근법(Synthetic Phonics Approach)에 기반한 음운인식 프로그램 효과성 분석

국문 초록

연구목적: 본 연구는 소리와 철자에 대응관계에 대한 체계적으로 지도하는 통합 파닉스 교수법에 의거한 음운인식 프로그램을 개발하고 그 효과성을 검증하는데 있다. 연구방법: 연구 대상은 경기 북부지역의 학교 및 아동복지시설에서 읽기영역에서 난독증 및 읽기부진을 보이는 초등학교 1-6학년 10명을 대상으로 하였다. 중재 프로그램은 통합 파닉스의 원리 하에 단순모음, 미끌모음, 자음과 쌍자음, 이중모음, 초성과 중성의 음절 글자, 초성, 중성, 종성으로 이루어지는 음절 글자에 대하여 단계별로 음운인식 교수가 이루어졌다. 프로그램은 총 13-15회기에 걸쳐 이루어졌으며, 기초학습기능 수행평가체제 초기문해 검사의 음운인식 하위 과제를 사전-사후 검사와 진전도 검사로 사용하였다. 연구결과: 연구결과 통합 파닉스 접근법에 기반한 음운인식 프로그램은 초등학교 저학년뿐만 아니라 고학년들도 음운인식 능력의 향상이 있었으며, 음운인식 하위 과제 중 인지적 부담이 다소 있는 것으로 알려진 대치 과제에서도 진전도의 향상을 보였다. 결론: 이러한 연구 결과에 기반하여 향후 읽기부진 아동을 위한 통합 파닉스 접근법에 기반한 음운인식 프로그램의 적용에 대한 제한점 및 시사점을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate effectiveness of the synthetic phonics program on phonological awareness skills for the underachieving children with dyslexia or reading difficulties. Method: Participants for this study included 10 students from elementary schools, ranging from 1st to 6th grade in the northern regions of Kyunggi province in Korea. The synthetic phonics intervention programs developed in this study included adding simple vowel and consonant combinations, double vowels and double consonants combinations based on a phonemic buildup structure, scaffolding unique constructs of C+V or C+V+C closing for each syllable in the language. The duration of the phonics intervention program provided to each student was 13-15 consecutive sessions for 40-50 minutes each, accompanied by Basic Academic Skills Assessment (BASA): Early Literacy proficiency test as pre- and post-test along with the alternative tests in order to monitor students’ progress. Results: As the results of the synthetic phonics intervention program, both lower and upper grade students demonstrated progress advancement of phonological awareness skills in all sub-tests, including the phoneme and syllable-based substitution type of phonological awareness. Conclusion: From the intervention program and assessment results, the limitations and further educational implications are discussed in relation to synthetic phonics programs for underachieving children.
