국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 도산이 보여준 민족운동의 과정에서 보여준 정치리더십을 살펴보고자 한다. 정치리더십은 “집단이 처한 문제 상황 속에서 인간들 간의 관계 속에서 행동을 유도”하는 것이라 할 수 있다. 도산에 있어 정치리더십은 정치지도자로서의 민족독립운동의 방향을 제시하는 역할이라 할 수 있다. 민족 독립이라는 정치적 목적을 실현하기 위해서 도산이 보여준 인식과 실천적 행동들을 살펴봄으로써, 그가 보여준 정치리더십을 규명할 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구에서는 도산의 정치리더십을 터커(Tucker)가 제시한 정치지도자의 진단-처방-동원의 세가지 기능을 활용하여 분석하고자 한다. 터커에 있어 리더십은 지도자가 상황을 진단하고, 이에 적합한 처방과 지지를 동원하는 과정이라고 하였다. 도산은 민족의 정치지도자로서 민족의 현실에 대한 진단과 민족을 위한 처방 및 민족 구성원의 지지를 동원하는 리더십을 보여 준것이다. 따라서 도산의 정치리더십은 그가 추진한 민족운동의 일련의 과정에서 일관된 정향성(독립국가 건설)을 지니고 있는 것을 알 수 있다.

영문 초록

The objective of this study is to investigate Dosan’s political leadership manifested in the course of the national movement. Political leadership can be defined as “inducing actions through human relations in problematic situations a group faces.” For Dosan, it means a role of suggesting directions for the national independence movement as a political leader. By examining Dosan’s perspective and pragmatic actions to realize the political goal of the national independence, we can illuminate his political leadership. This study tries to analyze Dosan’s political leadership using three functions of diagnosis, prescription and mobilization proposed by Tucker. Tucker asserted that leadership is a process in which a leader diagnoses the given situations, prescribes for them properly and mobilize support. Dosan as a political leader of the nation demonstrated the leadership to diagnose national realities, prescribe for the nation and mobilize support from compatriots. Thus, it is concluded that Dosan’s political leadership has a consistent orientation (foundation of an independent nation) in a series of courses of the national movement he pushed forward.
