국문 초록

본 연구는 가상환경을 이용한 행위화(enactment)가 기억 인출 및 인출에 대한 확신에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해 수행되었다. 행위화 변수를 조작하기 위해 가상환경을 이용해 행위화가 가능한 부호화 조건과 행위화가 가능하지 않은 비디오 및 텍스트 기반의 부호화 조건이 실험에 사용되었다. 실험 참여자들은 세 가지 양식의 부호화 양식에 따라 학습을 한 후 자유 회상 검사를 시행하였다. 또한 일주일 후 실험실에 다시 방문하여 기습 재인 검사(surprise recognition test)와 함께 본인이 인출한 답에 대한 확신 정도 설문을 수행하였다. 실험 결과 텍스트 기반의 부호화 양식이 타 양식보다 회상 검사 결과가 좋았다. 하지만 학습 후 일주일의 시간이 지난 뒤에 실시한 기습 재인 검사의 결과는 모든 부호화 수준 간에 유의한 차이가 없었다. 확신 정도의 경우, 텍스트 기반의 부호화 조건이 다른 두 부호화 조건에 비해 높은 확신정도를 보였다. 이러한 연구 결과는 텍스트 기반 부호화가 초기 기억 측면에서 우세하다는 것을 보여주지만, 학습 후 2주 정도의 시간이 지날 경우 텍스트 기반의 부호화가 타 양식의 부호화에 비해 메타기억의 부정확성이 큼을 나타낸다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of enactment using virtual environment on memory recall and confidence of recall. Three levels of encoding conditions were used in the experiment. First, in the enactment encoding condition, participants were asked to encode procedures by enacting them using the virtual environment. The other two encoding conditions were video and text-based encoding conditions that cannot be enacted. Participants performed a free recall test after the encoding session. A week later, they visited the laboratory again to conduct a surprise recognition test with degree of confidence in the answers. The results of the recall test were better in the text-based encoding condition compared to the other two conditions. However, the results of the surprise recognition test, conducted a week after learning, did not differ significantly across the three encoding conditions. For the degree of confidence, the text-based encoding conditions showed a higher degree of certainty than the other two encoding conditions. These findings show that text-based encoding is more effective than the other two encoding methods in early phase of retrieval, but in the medium to long term, the text-based encoding may have an overconfidence of memory.
