보험회사 사업비행태의 변화와 산업구분별 차이에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 논문은 국내 보험회사의 사업비행태가 과거에 비하여 변화되고 있는지 여부와 이러한 변화가 생명보험산업과 손해보험산업 간에 차이가 있는지 여부를 연구하였다. 선행연구에 의하면 우리나라의 보험산업에는 원가의 하방경직성이 있음을 보고하고 있는데, 본 논문에서는 선행연구에서 대상으로 한 기간 이후에 이러한 원가행태에 변화가 있었는지를 주로 사업비에 초점을 맞추어 연구하였으며, 생명보험산업과 손해보험산업 간에 차이가 있는지도 함께 살펴보았다. 분석결과, 선행연구에서 보고되었던 보험회사의 하방경직적 사업비행태는 나타나지 않거나 유의하지 않는 수준으로 나타났으며, 이러한 현상은 생명보험산업보다는 주로 손해보험산업에서 더욱 두드러지게 나타났다. 이러한 분석결과는 최근 보험영업환경의 변화와 무관하지 않은 것으로 판단된다. 특히 손해보험산업에서는 최근 경쟁구조의 심화와 미래 불확실성을 반영한 경영정책의 결과로 하방경직적 사업비행태가 사라지거나 약화된 것으로 보인다. 본 연구는 보험회사의 중요한 영업전략으로 활용되고 있는 사업비집행정책의 변화추세와 원인을 진단하였다는 점에서 중요한 의의를 가진다.

영문 초록

This paper studied whether the expense behavior of domestic insurance companies were changing compared to the past and whether these changes were different between life and non-life insurance industry. Prior research reported that there was the cost stickiness in the Korean insurance industry. After the research period of the prior study, this paper analyzed whether there was a change in cost behavior and also examined the difference between life insurance and non-life insurance industry. The analysis results showed that cost stickiness of insurance industry presented in prior study was not exist or significant and this phenomenon was more prominent in the non-life insurance industry than in the life insurance industry. This analysis is considered to be related to recent changes in the insurance operating environment. In particular, in the non-life insurance industry, it seems that the cost stickiness has disappeared or weakened as a result of management policies reflecting the deepening of the competition structure and future uncertainty. This study has significant meanings in that it examined the trend and causes of changes in insurance company’s expense policy that can be used as a means of profit management for insurance companies.
