최치원의 사산비명과 <진감선사비>의 서예 연구

국문 초록

최치원의 사산비명은『삼국사기ㆍ삼국유사』보다 연대가 훨씬 앞서며, 당시의 생생한 사실(史實)을 담은 일차 자료라는 점에서 사료적 가치가 높다. 문체는 변려문이고, 내용은 그의 문학 및 철학사상의 핵심을 이해할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 한국의 불교사ㆍ사상사ㆍ한문학사ㆍ서예사 등 여러 면으로 자료적 가치가 높다. <진감선사비>는 비의 형식과 비문 내용에서 서예사ㆍ문학ㆍ불교사ㆍ사상사ㆍ한문학연구사의 자료적 가치가 있을 뿐만 아니라 그의 대표작으로 유일하게 진위를 확인할 수 있다는 의미를 담고 있다. 이는 중국서예를 수용하여 이를 토대로 자기화하거나 더 나아가 높은 수준과 나은 방향으로 발전시킨 것이 그의 ‘자외공부’ 결과물임과 동시에 최치원 서예의 정체성 또는 청출어람이라 일컬을 수 있다. 최치원의 사산비명과 <진감선사비>를 통해 서예는 단순히 글씨만 쓰는 예술이 아니라 작가의 모든 것을 축적하고 함유한 동방문화의 정수임을 알 수 있다. 옛것을 정확히 이해하면 현재를 알 수 있고, 현재를 알면 올바른 미래를 제시할 수 있는데 서예도 이와 같다. 이 글을 통해 깊고 넓은 학양과 정감을 갖추며 겸허한 자세로 동방문화 정수인 서예에 대해 올바른 인식을 하여 새로운 창작의 발판을 마련하는 계기가 되길 바란다.

영문 초록

Sasanbimyeong(四山碑銘), the Stone Inscriptions at Four Mountains, composed by Choi Chi-won(857-908), is much earlier than the Samguk Sagi(三國史記) and the Samguk Yusa(三國遺事). It is valuable in terms of being primary data that contains the vivid facts of the time. The style of it is Pianliwen(騈儷文), and the contents of it show not only the core of his literary and philosophical thoughts, but also many aspects of the time which give a lot of information to various studies such as Buddhist history, thought history, Chinese literature, and calligraphy research. Jingamsensabi(眞鑑禪師碑) not only furnishes valuable data to calligraphers, literature scholars, Buddhist historians, and Chinese literature researcher, but it also has the significance of being proven the authentic masterpiece of Choi Chi-won. It is the result of his extracurricular study(字外功夫) in which he accepted Chinese calliagraphy and developed it into higher level and better direction. Throught his Sasnabimyeong and Jingamsensabi, calligraphy is not merely a writing art, but an essence of Oriental culture that accumulates and contains everything of the artist. If one understands the ancient things correctly, he or she can know the present, and predict the future correctly. This is also true in calliagraphy. Through this article, I hope that it will be a chance to establish a foundation for new creative work by proper understanding of calligraphy, which is the essence of Oriental culture, with a profound and wide academic background and a humble attitude.
