국문 초록

본 연구는 한국과 캐나다의 중등교원양성 교육과정 및 제도의 특성을 비교·분석한 문헌연구이다. 양국의 사회적, 문화적, 역사적 맥락을 바탕으로 교원양성 교육과정이 어떻게 변화되어 왔는지, 무엇을 성취하였는지 그리고 현재 직면한 문제점들의 분석을 통하여 공통점과 차이점을 알아보았다. 그 결과, 양국 교원양성 교육과정은 교원전문성과 현장 적합성 향상을 위해 모두 사회적 변화에 유동적으로 변화되고 있는 것을 알 수 있었다. 반면, 양국은 기본적으로 다른 사회문화적 맥락 그리고 교육에서 추구하는 이념이 다르기 때문에 교원양성 교육과정 변화 동력의 원천, 교원양성기관의 조직적 측면과 내용적 측면, 그리고 수업내용면에서 상이한 특성을 보였다. 캐나다와 한국의 교원양성과정을 비교·대조함으로써 교육의 질 향상을 위한 중등교원양성 교육과정의 개선방향에 관하여 다음과 같이 시사점을 도출할 수 있었다. 첫째, 내실 있는 교원양성 교육과정을 위해 각 나라의 고유한 맥락들을 고려하여 교육과정을 개발해야 한다. 둘째, 교원양성 교육과정에 시대적 흐름을 반영하는 것이 필요하다. 셋째, 교원양성 교육과정과 실제 현장실습 학교의 교육연계가 필요하다.

영문 초록

This article presents the results of a comparative study of the characteristics of the teacher education curriculum and policy for secondary school teachers in the Province of Ontario in Canada and the Republic of Korea. The study covers the following areas: the histories of both curriculums, the achievements, and the issues pertinent to teacher education programs in Canada and Korea. As a result of comparing and analyzing these three dimensions of the teacher education curriculum in both countries, the major findings are: (1) the teacher education curriculum in both countries have been changing as a result of it adapting and meeting the needs of social change in order to demonstrate teaching professionalism and site compatibility. (2) On the other hand, since both countries have essentially different socio-cultural contexts and educational ideologies, different characteristics arose. The following suggestions and implications were drawn. First, the curriculum should be developed, taking into account the specific contexts of each country. Second, it is necessary to reflect on the current trends within contemporary society. Third, it is imperative to build a link between the teacher education curriculum and the curriculum of the site of teaching practicum. Further, there is a need to demonstrate developing skills and competencies.
