영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to compare how traditional Korean patchwork cloth is applied into the oriental and western designer’s collection. The research method are combined the reference studies and empirical studies. For the reference studies, it reviewed mainly on books, journals, and thesis related to the patchwork cloth and for the empirical studies, it analyzed in types, materials, colors, and techniques expressed in 2015/16 Chanel Seoul Cruise collection and 2016 S/S Liesangbong New York collection. As the result, firstly, only irregular shapes were appeared among quadrangles in the Chanel Cruise collection as well as in the Liesangbong New York collection. Secondly for the materials, Chanel Cruise collection only used linen, organza, and so on and it was using silk, cotton, and organza in the Liesangbong New York collection. Thirdly for the colors, the Chanel Cruise collection expressed the patchwork cloth by using lowed chrome based on a variety of traditional Obang colors calmly and the Liesangbong used blue, white and black rather than using traditional Korean colors. Lastly for the techniques, the Chanel collection expressed by using traditional techniques and the Liesangbong collection expressed by using the silk screen technique rather than traditional ones. It is thought that this kind of study will be helpful for making traditional designs that the Korean tradition is added for young designers of Korea as well as planning designs of clothes and accessories using the traditional patchwork cloth technique.
