영문 초록

The article touches upon the issue of linguistic ideas of Russian conservationists in the beginning of the XIX century. It notes, in particular, the difference in ideological positions of the participants of the famous XIX century discussion about “the old and the new style”. The conservationists of that time were marked with “gallophobia” and were afraid of borrowings from European languages to Russian. The article underlines the relations between conservationism and the newly-born nationalism, extensive usage of patriotic rhetorics. Another issue concerned is the fight of Orthodox conservationists against the attempt to translate the Bible into Russian in the 20th of XIX century. T he authors point out the difficulty of defining the term "conservatism", as its political meaning depends on historical context. The essence of conservatism should be viewed in its defensive function. The conservatism should be distinguished from archaism. Conservative ideology prevailed in Russian society of XIX century and manifested itself not only in social and political issues, but in the attitude towards Russian language as well. The article points out insufficient level of research of linguistic aspects of Russian conservatism. The present article its the attempt to fill in the gap.
