국문 초록

김수환 추기경은 한국이 근대화를 내걸고 경제발전에 매진하던 1970년대 초에 이미 인간이 병들고 사회도 병들었다고 진단한다. 인간 탐욕으로 자연생태계가 파괴되고, 인간 삶이 위협받고 있으며 정신적 위기 상태에 빠져 인간과 자연의 유기체적 관계, 인간과 인간의 사회적 관계, 인간과 초월적 세계의 관계가 모두 무너졌다고 밝힌다. 따라서 김 추기경은 모든 것을 오염시킨 인간이 참 인간성을 회복하는 것이 창조주 하느님과 생명의 물인 예수 그리스도를 따르는 근본 해결책이라고 제시한다. 특히 한국사회는 도시화와 산업화를 위해 희생시킨 농민을 생태적 동반자로 삼고, 녹색평화를 실현하기 위해 농촌살리기 운동과 구체적 생활실천운동에 힘써야 한다고 강조한다. 이렇게 모든 이가 생명을 존중하고 참된 인간성을 살리려 노력할 때 사랑으로 만물을 창조하신 하느님 안에서 자기완성을 이룰 수 있다고 확신한다. 이를 통해 우리는 창조질서에 동참하면서 조화로운 생명공동체를 실현할 것이다.

영문 초록

From the early 1970's when Korea strived for economic development under the flag of modernization, Cardinal Kim diagnosed humanity and society as ill. He declared that the natural Eco-System was being destroyed and human life was threatened by human greed. Faced with the spiritual crisis of our age, he pointed out that the organic relationship of human and nature, the social relationships of human beings and the relationship of the human and transcendental worlds were close to the point of collapse. Cardinal Kim suggests that to restore genuine humanity, the radical solution is that which follows God the creator and Jesus Christ, the water of life. Especially, he emphasizes the importance of saving agricultural villages and going green in our daily life, bringing ecological peace to farmers who were sacrificed for urbanization and industrialization. Cardinal Kim trusts that self-realization can be achieved in God who created all things with love, when everyone respects life and tries to recover their humanity. In this way, he says, we can take part in the process of creation and we will be able to realize a harmonious Eco-community
