영문 초록

This paper investigates the Bodhisattva Image at Gaetaesa(開泰寺). Gaetaesa was built by the order of WangGeon(王建) who was the founder of the Goryo(高麗) Dynasty in 940, four years after making a surrender of the Later Paekje here. Now, Gaetaesa is divided into two parts, one is the place which The Stone Buddha Triad Image(石造三尊佛) is located. The other is the Gaetaesa site(開泰寺址) that is situated 300m away from the north part of Gaetaesa. In this site, there is the Bodhisattva Image. Usually, this Image is considered that it was made at the same time when The Stone Buddha Triad Image was made in 940. Before writing about the text, I surveyed past achievements which include art history, archaeology, Korean history and other cultural and academic subjects. This paper study about when the Bodhisattva Image at Gaetaesa was made. To reveal the making time, I used archaeological relic, the roof tile tiles at the edge of eaves which were excavated at the Sungsunsa site(崇善寺址). According to the historic record, the Sungsunsa was built in 954 by Kwongjong(光宗). The roof tile which is found in The Sungsunsa, also is found in Gaetaesa site. Because of the roof tile, we can know when the Gaetaesa site started to make. Not only the excavation of the Sungsunsa site but also the archaeological achievement of the Bongupsa(奉業寺) - In 960, the JinJunsawon(眞殿寺院) which was in the Bongupsa(奉業寺) was built - we can know when the Gaetaesa site was made. The jinjun(眞殿) in the Gataesa was important than the Bongupsa's. Because WangGeon made the Gaetaesa that has important symbolic meaning. By symbolic importance, we can know that Gaetaesa was made before Bongupsa. By this kind of archaeological proofs, we can know the Bodhisattva Image at Gaetaesa site was made between 954 and 960. The Bodhisattva Image at Gaetaesa was situated in front of the stone stupa. In the unified Silla, the statue which was situated just before stupa is a monk statue. From the Gaetaesa site, the statue was changed from monk to the Bodhisattva Image. The Bodhisattva Image at Gaetaesa mean contrition. Also The Bodhisattva Image may meant Kwongjong. Kwongjong killed his two older brothers to get a position of authority. After he became King, he wanted to pray for his brother. This article assume that Kwongjong identified himself with the Bodhisattva Image at Gaetaesa site. Gaetaesa was the best place to set up the stupa with the Bodhisattva Image which pray to the Vairocana(毘盧遮那佛).
