영문 초록

This research is part of a larger exploratory study on factors related to English language education in Korea in general and mismatch in learners' language learning goals, beliefs, anxiety, and strategies in specific. 559 Korean junior high level students were surveyed using several valid inventory measures to obtain data used in the study. The study initially hypothesizes that Korean language learners are subject to a reality in which they can not but strive for two different goals, a global one and a more realistic one, and therefore, experience a mismatch in the pursuance of their goals. Further, this study explores such a phenomenon based on related factors that influence goal achievement including language learning beliefs, anxiety, and strategies and examine their influence on learners' stances towards achieving language fluency and accuracy. The study reports findings that evidence a mismatch in learners' long-term and short-term goals; its effects on learner beliefs, anxiety, and strategy use; and significant relationships among learner beliefs, anxiety, and strategy use. Results of the study are then analyzed in discussions on measures to clarify for learners their perceived language learning goals, and hence, enhance beliefs, anxiety as well as choice of strategy use in future language learning endeavors.
