국문 초록

남해안의 득량만과 해창만 간석지는 일제시대와 경제개발기에 대대적으로 개간되었다. 득량만의 경우 1930년 공유수면매립 허가가 내려진 지 9 년 만에 계획한 공정을 마무리 지을 수 있었으며 해창만 간척 사업은 1963년 착수하여 1993년까지 계속되었다 두 사업은 시간적인 공백은 있었지만, 방조제 공사에 례도 차량과 선박이 동원되고 다수의 인부가 참여하였으며 빗물을 이용해 탈염이 행해진 공통점이 있다. 산미증식전략의 일환으로 전개된 보성흥업회사의 득량만 간척은 유역변경하여 발전하고 방수된 보성강물을 관개 수로 활용하는 방식으로 일사불란하게 진행되었으나, 저수지와 담수호를 수원으로 농촌근대화기에 추진된 해창만의 간석지개발은 자금 및 인력난과 함께 추진력 부족으로 장기간에 걸쳐 이루어졌다. 해안평야의 운영은 소작인과 임차농을 구성원으로 하는 간척촌의 성립을 전제로 하였으며, 간석지 개긴으로 인한 환경의 변화는 촌락사회 주도세력의 교체, 지역중심지의 이동, 경관의 변화를 수반하였다.

This essay discusses about the regional transformation following the reclamation of tidal flats In the two contrasting bay areas of deukryang and haechang on the Southern coast of South Cholla Province The reclamation of the deukryang inlet m the 1930s proceeded in tandem with the building of a hydroelectric power plant in Bosung County It was the chrome shortage of foodstuffs in Japan that drove the colonial agrarian eapitalists to establish Bosung-heungup Company and to embark on the project Similarly, the increasing demand for the arable m the rugged Koheung County served as the driving force behind the development of the haeehang bay area Despite the thirty-year span between the two initiatives, the embankment underwent ill almost a similar fashion to the extent that It featured railway carnages, flat~bottomed boats, and day laborer The newly acquired land was tilled by the peasants recruited on contract from the neighboring countryside The transformation of environment stemming from the reclamation of tidal flats accompanied the replacement of local elite, the relocation of local centers and the changing landscape
