국문 초록

정신 모델은 개념적 모호성에도 불구하고 다양한 분야에 적용될 수 있는 유용한 개념이다. 정신 모델은 사람들로 하여금 세상을 이해하고, 행위의 결과를 예측하며, 예측하지 못한 현상들을 다룰 수 있게 해준다. 그렇기 때문에 정신모델은 심리학 분야와 공학 분야에서 주목을 받고 있지만 심리학에서는 과제 영역에, 공학분야에서는 도구 영역에 주로 관심을 갖고 연구하여 왔으므로 정신 모델에 대한 체계적 설명이 어려웠다. 본 연구는 정신 모델, 개념 모델 및 시스템 이미지의 세 측면에서 정신 모델을 설명하였다. 그리고 정신 모델이 정보의 표집 방략, 부합성 및 훈련 분야에 어떤 영향을 미치는지를 검토함으로써 정신 모델이 인간공학적 측면에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 그리고 시스템 구조의 사상 과정이 정신 모델과 시스템간의 관계를 설명할 수 있는지를 검토하기 위해 유추에 대한 구조 사상 이론을 살펴보았다.

영문 초록

The mental model helps people to understand the affairs of world, expects results of their behaviors, and treats unexpected events. So, there has been increasing interests in psychology and engineering domains. However, the conceptualization of mental model is still left unresolved because psychologists take an interest in task domain while engineers do in tool domain. In this study, the mental model is explained in terms of user's mental model, scientist's conceptual model, and system image. We reviewed how the mental model influences human behaviors by investigating several human factor areas such as sampling strategy, compatibility, and training. And the structure mapping theory of analogy and Gentner & Gentner's study(l983) are analyzed to examine whether the relation between the mental model and system could be explained by mapping processes between base system and target system. In conclusion, although the mental model is vague conceptually, its application in several human factor domains can be useful once clear conceptual models are invented.
