국문 초록

본 연구는 융(C. G. Jung)의 개성화 이론(individuation theory)을 이론적 토대로 하여, 타로 메이저 아르카나(Major Arcana) 22장에 나타난 상징 체계를 심층심리학적 관점에서 분석하고, 이를 상담적 자기탐색 도구로 활용할 수 있는 가능성을 고찰하는 데 목적을 두었다. 융의 개성화 과정은 자아(ego)와 자기(Self)의 통합을 지향하는 심리적 여정으로, 자아의 분리, 그림자와의 대면, 자아 해체와 회복, 자기 실현으로 이어지는 상징적 전개를 포함한다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 타로 메이저 아르카나 22장의 상징과 융의 개성화 단계 사이의 구조적․상징적 대응 관계를 단계별로 비교하고, 각 카드가 개성화를 위한 상담 현장에서 어떻게 활용될 수 있는지 상담적 함의를 도출하였다. 특히 메이저 아르카나의 순차적 흐름은 융의 개성화 여정과 유사한 상징구조를 지니고 있으며, 각 카드가 특정 심리 과제와 내면 작업을 반영할 수 있는 매개체로 기능함을 확인하였다. 이를 통해 타로카드를 활용한 개성화 상담의 과정을 ‘출발, 통과의례, 붕괴, 회복, 통합’으로 재구성하였다. 이 연구는 타로 카드를 상담의 매개로 활용하여 내면의 통합과 상징적 변화를 이끌어낼 수 있으며, 이를 통해 개성화 상담 모델의 효과적인 도구로 활용할 수 있음을 확인했다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This study explores the applicability of the 22 cards of the Tarot Major Arcana as a symbolic tool for self-exploration in counseling, grounded in C.G. Jung’s individuation theory. Individuation, as conceptualized by Jung, is a psychological journey toward the integration of the ego and the Self, encompassing symbolic stages such as ego separation, confrontation with the shadow, ego dissolution and reconstruction, and ultimately, self-realization. From a depth psychological perspective, this study analyzes the symbolic structure of the Major Arcana and compares it with the stages of the individuation process. The sequential progression of the Major Arcana reveals a structural and symbolic parallel to Jung’s individuation journey, suggesting that each card can function as a medium for engaging with specific psychological tasks and inner transformations. Based on this framework, the process of individuation counseling is restructured into five stages: departure, initiation, collapse, recovery, and integration. This study highlights the potential of the Major Arcana to serve as a guiding symbolic system within counseling, offering a model for individuation that facilitates inner integration and symbolic transformation.
