내담자와 상호관계에서의 상담자 성장에 관한 연구: Giorgi 분석틀을 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 상담자가 내담자와의 상호적 상담관계 속에서 경험하는 성장의 의미와 본질을 현상학적 방법으로 탐색하였다. 상담 경력 5년 이상의 상담자 10명을 대상으로 심층면담을 실시하였고, Giorgi의 현상학적 절차에 따라 자료를 분석하였다. 총 237개의 의미단위를 도출한 후, 이를 50개의 하위구성요소와 15개의 주제군으로 정리하고, 최종적으로 7개의 핵심범주로 통합하였다. 분석 결과, 상담자의 성장은 단순한 전문성 축적이 아니라 존재론적 변화와 관계적 각성의 과정으로 나타났다. 참여자들은 내담자와의 관계 속에서 한계․불안․미숙함과 마주하고 이를 성찰하였으며, 정서적 공명과 역전이를 통해 과거 상처와 현재의 자기경험을 치유․통합하는 흐름을 보였다. 이러한 결과는 ‘존재 대 존재’의 진정한 만남 속에서 상호교감이 이루어질 때, 상담자 자신 또한 치유되고 변화되는 관계적 성장이 가능함을 보여준다. 나아가 상담 경험은 삶과 상담의 통합, 실존적 정체성의 재정립, 상담 철학의 형성으로 확장되었다. 본 연구는 상담자의 성장을 관계 중심적으로 조명함으로써, 상담자 교육과 수퍼비전에서 정서적 자기이해와 관계적 성찰을 강화할 필요성을 제시한다.

영문 초록

This study phenomenologically explored the meaning and essence of counselor growth experienced within the interactive counseling relationship with clients, utilizing Giorgi’s descriptive phenomenological method. In-depth interviews were conducted with 10 counselors having over 5 years of experience, and the collected data were analyzed following Giorgi’s phenomenological procedures. A total of 237 meaning units were derived, which were then organized into 50 sub-components and 15 theme clusters, finally integrated into 7 core categories. The analysis revealed that counselor growth is not merely an accumulation of expertise but a process of ontological change and relational awakening. Participants encountered and reflected upon their limitations, anxieties, and immaturity within the client relationship. They also demonstrated a process of healing and integrating past wounds and current self-experiences through emotional resonance and countertransference. These findings indicate that relational growth, wherein counselors themselves are healed and transformed, is possible when genuine interaction occurs in an “existence-to-existence” encounter. Furthermore, the counseling experience expanded into the integration of life and counseling, the reestablishment of existential identity, and the formation of a counseling philosophy. This study highlights the necessity of strengthening emotional self-understanding and relational reflection in counselor training and supervision by illuminating counselor growth from a relationship-centered perspective.
