In today’s passage, when Herod’s plan to kill Peter went for naught, he executed the guards to save his reputation in front of the Jewish people and went to Caesarea to escape their eyes (v. 19). It also says that Herod quarreled with the people of Tyre and Sidon (v. 20). Though the scripture does not tell why, I think it was probably because they did not praise Herod even though he provided them with food. Herod abused his power, but his power and authority were not given to kill other people and express his anger as he wanted. Herod must have wanted people's praise while being furious over a small failure because of his inferiority complex. I tried to hide my low self-esteem with achievements and the praise from other people. Therefore, I am shaken by a single failure or ignorance and became a success- and praiseaddict, always wanting to succeed and achieve day by day. (Jaewhee Kim)

Then the times of suffering came. I went to the hospital because of my weakened muscles and was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, ... Also, due to the IMF (International Monetary Fund) crisis in Korea in 1997, I had to close my architecture firm. So I became jobless, and my wife had to start working. While I stayed home, I took out my anger and anxiety on my children and even tried to frighten my daughter with a rod when she talked back at me. Then one day, my daughter said to me, “You’re a bloodsucking parasite living off of mom’s benefits!” My son, who started receiving treatment for depression when he was in high school, recovered after his discharge from military duty but eventually became depressed again and locked himself in his room. ... Eventually, he attempted suicide in his room. I attended early morning services and prayed desperately to God to end all of the problems I had with my children but did not understand why all of this was happening to me. (Mann Ho Park)

Later, I managed to persuade my father for his hospitalization, but he threw aside the hospital food, complaining their low-sodium meals were tasteless. ... As further operations and infections prolonged his stay in the hospital, I became tired of nursing him and was concerned about the hospital bills. Worst of all, I resented him when he said, “I want to eat this and that,” or “I want to leave the hospital,” even though he did not have a single penny to pay for anything. ... My resentment and sense of burden overwhelmed me even to the point where I did not want to live anymore (v. 27). 큐티엠(큐티선교회, Quiet Time Movement)에서는 장년에서부터 청소년, 어린이, 영유아에 이르기까지 모든 세대가 한 말씀으로 날마다 묵상하는 것을 돕고자 2013년에는 《청소년 큐티인》을, 2014년에는 초등학생을 위한 《어린이 큐티인》을 차례로 창간한 바 있으며, 여기에도 청소년과 어린이 필자들의 생생한 묵상간증이 실려 있습니다. 그리고 2016년 1월에는 미취학 아동을 위한 《새싹 큐티인》을 창간하여 전 세대가 같은 말씀으로 묵상하도록 돕고 있습니다. 더불어 영어권에 있는 해외 독자들의 수요가 점점 늘어남에 따라 2019년 9월에는 영문판 《QTin》이 eBook으로 창간되었고, 2020년 1월부터는 종이책으로도 발간되고 있습니다. 《QTin》은 국내외 독자들에게 구속사적인 말씀묵상 운동을 전하고자 40여 명의 필진과 편집부가 섬기고 있습니다. 《QTin》을 통해 한국뿐만 아니라 해외에서도 성도가 살아나고, 가정이 회복되며, 교회가 새롭게 되는 열매가 맺히기를 기대합니다.
