국문 초록

본 연구는 퇴계 이황의 성학십도를 기반으로, 숭덕(崇德)과 광업(廣業)의 개념을 현대적 관점에서 재해석하고, 이를 기업 경영에 적용할 수 있는 방안을 탐구하였다. ｢소학｣과 ｢대학｣을 중심으로 숭덕과 광업의 철학적 개념을 심도 있게 분석한 결과, 숭덕은 마음의 사유를 통해서 몸과 감정의 본질을 이해하는 것으로 정의된다. 광업은 숭덕의 기반 위에서 무한한 방식으로 무한한 감정을 그 자체의 본성으로 이해하며, 이를 최고의 완전성과 아름다움으로 존중하고 실천하는 행위를 의미한다. 이러한 과정을 통해 숭덕과 광업은 ‘다 좋은 세상’을 위한 행복과 성공의 원칙으로 자리 잡는다. 연구는 숭덕과 광업의 개념이 단순한 철학적 이론을 넘어 경영 이론으로 정립될 수 있음을 본 연구자의 창업 실패와 성공 사례를 통해 실증적으로 분석하였다. 초기 창업 실패는 경제적 성과와 외부적 기대에 지나치게 몰입하며, 논자 자신의 마음과 욕망을 간과한 결과였다. 이는 숭덕이 결여된 상태에서 광업에만 몰입한 것이며, 이러한 접근은 필연적으로 실패로 이어질 수밖에 없었다. 반면, 숭덕을 회복하고 진정한 자기 탐구를 바탕으로 이루어진 사업은 개인적 성취뿐 아니라 사회적 가치를 함께 실현하는 광업을 확인하였다. 숭덕은 단순히 마음을 수양하는 데 그치지 않고, 자신의 몸과 감정에 대한 본질적 이해를 통해 경영 활동의 도덕적 기초를 제공한다. 이는 경영자가 내면의 성찰을 통해 올바른 판단을 내리고, 기업의 행동이 윤리적이고 성공할 수 있도록 이끄는 중요한 역할을 한다. 반면, 광업은 숭덕의 실천적 확장이며, 세상의 모든 관계 속에서 타인의 감정을 존중하고, 조화로운 협력을 통해 조직과 사회의 더 큰 가치를 실현하는 데 초점을 둔다. 이로써 숭덕과 광업은 경영의 핵심 원칙으로 자리 잡는다. 결론적으로, 퇴계의 ｢성학십도｣는 덕과 업의 조화를 통해 현대 경영에서도 유효한 철학적 토대와 실천적 방향성을 제공한다. 본 연구는 이를 기반으로 퇴계의 가르침이 오늘날에도 개인과 조직 모두의 성장과 성공을 위한 중요한 방향성을 제시할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 퇴계 성학십도는 인간 중심의 경영 철학으로서, 현대 리더십과 조직 운영에 변함없는 가치를 지닌다는 점에서 큰 의의를 가진다.

영문 초록

The SungHakSipDo (Ten Diagrams of Holy Learning) by Toegye Yi Hwang is not merely a philosophical theory but a vital guide that provides practical and concrete direction for life and business. This paper establishes the concepts of Sungdeok (崇德, Reverence for Virtue) and Gwangup (廣業, Broadening Endeavors) based on the SungHakSipDo and analyzes these concepts through my own business experiences. The study explores how Sungdeok and Gwangup can be implemented and applied in corporate management. Sungdeok refers to the process of rectifying one’s mind to understand the essence of one’s body and emotions, ultimately achieving happiness and perfection in life. It goes beyond mere moral ideals, focusing on creating broader communal values through inner reflection and self-discipline. Gwangup, grounded in Sungdeok, manifests as a practical act of understanding the inherent nature of emotions within all relationships, thereby realizing perfection and beauty in those interactions. This paper demonstrates the managerial applicability of Sungdeok and Gwangup through cases of my entrepreneurial failures and successes. Analyzing the causes of my initial startup failures revealed that the absence of Sungdeok was a primary factor. Pursuing only personal desires and external achievements without addressing the essence of the mind and emotions led to failure. Subsequently, by restoring Sungdeok and exploring what I truly wanted to achieve and how I could contribute to society through my work, I redefined the direction of my business. This process resulted in the establishment of a successful enterprise that not only thrived but also allowed me to engage in social contributions and experience personal fulfillment. Herein lies the essence of Sungdeok and Gwangup. In conclusion, Sungdeok and Gwangup serve as essential principles for modern management, going beyond ethical values to become foundational to corporate survival and the fulfillment of social responsibility. Sungdeok provides managers with internal reflection and sound judgment, while Gwangup, built on this foundation, creates greater value in relationships with others. Toegye’s SungHakSipDo offers practical insights into the harmony of virtue and endeavor, which remain relevant in contemporary management, providing entrepreneurs with a humanistic and sustainable philosophy of leadership. In this respect, the teachings of the SungHakSipDo continue to offer profound implications, emphasizing the critical importance of integrating virtue and endeavor in corporate management today.
