국문 초록

이 연구는 공업계고 졸업생인 나(I)의 대학 진학 선택 경험을 자문화기술지로 재현하는 데 목적이 있다. 구체적으로는 공고생으로서 왜, 그리고 어떤 과정을 통해 대학 진학을 선택하였는지를 탐색하였다. 이는 단순하고 도식적인 판단이 아닌, 사회적 낙인 및 구조적 불평등의 극복, 관계적 상호작용 등이 중층적으로 작용한 복잡다단한 결과였다. 연구의 주요 함의는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대학 진학은 단순한 사회적 상향 이동을 넘어 구조적 불균형과 사회적 낙인에 대한 저항과 진로 정체성 혼란에 대한 자기 회복을 위한 선택이었다. 둘째, 이러한 진학 선택은 단편적인 결단이 아닌 개인의 진로 정체성 형성과 교사들의 진심 어린 초대 등 관계 속 지지가 축적된 결과였다. 셋째, 공고생이라는 사회적인 납작한 평가를 극복하고 새로운 미래를 구상하며, 내가 경험한 결핍을 후속 세대에게 물려주지 않으려는 공적 책임감에서 비롯된 기투 의지가 진학으로 이어졌다. 넷째, 대학 진학 결정은 삶의 맥락과 관계성 속에서 점진적으로 형성되는 복합적 결과로 향후 중등 직업교육 연구에서 개인 서사를 중시하는 심층 접근의 필요성을 제기한다. 마지막으로 공고생으로서 나의 대학 진학 선택은 학생-교사간 진정성 있는 관계에서 비롯되었으며, 직업교육 분야에서 상기와 같은 교육적 행위를 제도적으로 인정하고 보호할 수 있는 새로운 정책적 대안의 필요를 제언한다.

영문 초록

This autoethnographic study reconstructs the experiences of the researcher, a graduate of a vocational high school in the Republic of Korea, in choosing to go to university. Specifically, it explores the reasons and processes behind this decision, which was not a simple and schematic decision, but rather a complex outcome of relational interactions, social stigma, and structural inequality. The main implications of the study are as follows: First, attending college represented more than simply social upward mobility; it was a choice to resist structural imbalances and recover from career identity confusion. Second, the decision was shaped by accumulated relational support, including personal career identity formation and sincere invitations from teachers. Third, it was driven by a sense of civic responsibility to overcome the social stigma of being a vocational high school student, envision a new future, and prevent similar disadvantages for the next generation. Fourth, this study suggests that the decision to attend college is a complex outcome that is gradually shaped by life contexts and relationships, underscoring the need for an in-depth research approach that emphasizes personal narratives in secondary vocational education. Finally, it concludes that the college-going choices of vocational high school students stem from authentic student-teacher relationships and suggests the need for new policy alternatives to institutionally recognize and protect such pedagogical practices in secondary vocational education.
