‘미래교육’ 논의에 대한 비판적 고찰: 교육관의 문제를 중심으로

국문 초록

미래사회의 변화를 예측하면서 교육 변화의 필요성과 그 방향에 관심을 갖는 다양한 논의들이 진행되고 있다. 이른바 ‘미래교육’을 주제로 하는 ‘교육학계’의 논의들은 크게 두 갈래의 경향성을 보인다. 하나는 4차 산업혁명 시대의 도래에 따른 과학기술의 발전과 급변하는 사회경제체제의 변화에 ‘교육’도 신속히 준비하고 대응해야 한다는 일련의 사회적 담론과 정책에 기조를 맞추는 것이고, 다른 하나는 이러한 일련의 연구들이 지극히 기술지향적이며 신자유주의적인 한계가 있고 ‘교육 본연’의 논점을 놓치고 있다는 비판과 대안 제시이다. 그러나 고유한 이론적 교육 개념의 부재라는 근본적인 문제를 인식하고 이를 극복하려는 노력이 없는 한 이러한 논쟁은 소모적일뿐이다. 본 연구는 이 난맥상의 원인을 교육관의 차원에서 분석하여 기존 논의들에 공통적으로 내재하는 교육학적 한계를 드러내고 교육 현상을 포착할 수 있는 자율적인 교육학 이론의 필요성을 논의하였다. 아울러 자율적 교육학의 길을 보여주고 있는 교육본위론을 도입하여 미래사회 담론에 참여하는 교육학의 새로운 방향과 과제를 예시하였다.

영문 초록

Various discussions have emerged that focus on the necessity and direction of educational change in response to anticipated transformations in future society. Within the field of education, discourses under the theme of so-called “future education” largely exhibit two distinct tendencies. One trend aligns its research with broader social discourses and government policies, particularly those stemming from the rapid advancements in science and technology and the shifting socio-economic structures brought about by the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The other trend criticizes such research for being overly technocentric and rooted in neoliberal ideologies, thereby arguing that it is difficult to apply these approaches to real educational settings and that they overlook the essential nature of education itself. However, without recognizing and overcoming the fundamental issue—namely, the absence of a distinct theoretical concept of education—such debates are ultimately unproductive. This study analyzes the root of this impasse at the level of educational perspectives, reveals the educational limitations inherent in both types of discourse, and argues for the necessity of an autonomous educational theory capable of capturing educational phenomena. Furthermore, by introducing The Endogenous Theory of Education, which presents a pathway toward autonomous educational studies, this study illustrates a new direction and task for the discourse on future society.
