국문 초록

Purpose: This study aimed to categorize the subjective perceptions of patient death among intensive care unit (ICU) nurses and provide foundational data for developing nursing interventions tailored to the characteristics of each type. Methods: Q-methodology was applied. The P-sample consisted of nurses who had worked in ICUs for more than three months. A set of 44 Q-statements was developed through a literature review and in-depth interviews. Participants performed Q-sorting by distributing the statements on a 9-point scale using forced distribution. Factor analysis was conducted using the Personal Computer -Q methodology Analysis (PC-QUANL) program. Results: The perceptions and attitudes of ICU nurses towards death were categorized into three types: "assistant for the death of a meaningful patient", "end-of-life care provider as a job", and "skilled end-of-life care provider for a comfortable death". Conclusion: This study identified and categorized ICU nurses' perceptions and attitudes toward death, highlighting the characteristics of each type. The findings are expected to aid in the development and implementation of educational programs and intervention strategies related to death for ICU nurses.
