국문 초록

따돌림이 발생하는 집단구조를 이해하는 것은 학교폭력의 원인과 전개 과정을 분석하는 데 중요한 단서를 제공한다. 다른 집단에 대한 따돌림은 ‘거부'로 작용하지만, 동일한 집단 내에서 발생하는 따돌립은 제재'의 성격을 띤다는 점에서 그 양상이 다를 수 있댜 본 연구는 동일한 집단 내에서 사회자본이 작동하는 방식과 그 경계가 형성되는 과정을 탐색하여 따돌림과 폭력적 행동이 징벌적 제재와 도덕적 정당화의 담론을 통해 합리화되며, 친구 관계의 배제와 단절로 이어지는 과정을 분석하는 데 목적이 있다. 본 연구는 또래 집단 내에서 발생한 개의 따돌림 사례를 분석하는 다중사례연구 방법을 통해 사례 간 유사성과 차이를 구조화된 방식으로 비교함으로써 관심 현상의 반복성과 그 발생 맥락을 심층적으로 파악하였다. 이를 통해 친구집단 내 규범의 기능, 따돌림의 사회적 기제, 정당화 담론의 작동 방식, 그리고 폭력적 행동을 통한 관계 해체의 양상을 종합적으로 확인하였다. 나아가, 사회자본이 집단 내 통합과 유대를 촉진하는 자원일 뿐 아니라, 동시에 배제와 위계의 경계를 설정하는 수단으로도 작동할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 또래집단의 사회자본을 유지하기 위한 사회제재는 정의롭고 정당한 행위로 해석되며 또한 제재의 책임은 피해자에게 전가되었다. 사회 자본으로 작용하는 집단 규범의 위반은 징벌적 제재로서 따돌림을 유발하고 따돌림에 수반하는 폭력적 행동은 도덕적으로 정당화되고 있었다.

영문 초록

Understanding the group structure in which bullying occurs provides critical insight into the causes and dynamics of school violence. Bullying directed toward out-groups functions as a form of "rejection," whereas bullying within the same group often takes on the character of a "sanction," highlighting differences in its manifestation. This study aims to explore how social capital operates within peer groups and how its boundaries are constructed, in order to analyze how bullying and violent behaviors are rationalized through discourses of punitive sanction and moral justification, ultimately leading to exclusion and disconnection in friendships. Using a multiple case study method, this research analyzed two instances of bullying that occurred within peer groups, allowing for a structured comparison of similarities and differences between the cases. Through this, it examined the function of group norms within friendships, the social mechanisms of bullying, the workings of justificatory discourses, and the patterns of relational dissolution through violent acts. Furthermore, the study reveals that social capital not only functions as a resource for fostering group cohesion and solidarity, but also operates as a mechanism for establishing boundaries of exclusion and hierarchy. Social sanctions enacted to preserve the social capital of peer groups were interpreted as just and legitimate actions, and responsibility for the sanctions was shifted onto the victims. The violation of group norms — functioning as social capital —triggered punitive bullying, and the violent behaviors that accompanied the bullying were morally justified.
