Bruner의 교육적 관점에 비추어 본 개념기반 교육과정의 가능성과 한계 : MACOS와의 비교를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 개념기반 교육과정에 줄 수 있는 시사점을 탐색하기 위해 MACOS 교육과정 평가 자료를 분석하였다. 두 교육과정은 학습 과정을 중시하며, 핵심 개념의 깊이 있는 이해와 실생활 적용을 목표로 한다. 하지만 자료 활용 목적, 교사 전문성 개발 방식, 평가 방식에 차이가 있었으며 이에 기반해 개념기반 교육과정의 한계를 보완할 방법을 모색하였다. 첫째, 개념 형성 과정에서의 학습 부족은 MACOS의 자료 제공 방식을 참고하여 보완할 수 있다. 둘째, 교사 재교육의 등급화 우려는 MACOS의 자기 성찰 체크리스트 방식으로 완화할 수 있다. 셋째, 평가에서 학생 배경 다양성을 고려하지 않는 것은 MACOS의 점수 보정 방식을 반영해 개선할 수 있다. 넷째, MACOS의 다양한 평가방식을 활용해 학생의 평가 경험을 확장할 수 있다. MACOS는 시대적, 문화적 한계를 가지고 있으나, 최근 활발하게 논의되는 개념기반 교육과정과의 유사성은 오늘날 이 교육과정의 심도 있는 이해와 활용에 기여할 수 있다. 이 유사성은 지식과 사고의 확장을 함께 강조한 새로운 교육과정 모델의 개발에도 활용될 수 있다. 학습자의 문제 해결 능력과 핵심 개념에 대한 깊이 있는 이해를 균형 있게 평가하고, 학습 전이를 촉진하는 새로운 교육과정 설계를 제시하였다는 데 본 연구의 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This study analyzed the limitations and implications of the Concept-Based Curriculum (CBC) by examining MACOS curriculum evaluation materials. Both curricula emphasize the learning process and aim for an in-depth understanding and practical application of core concepts. However, differences were identified in the purposes of material utilization, methods of teacher professional development, and assessment approaches. This study explored ways to address the limitations of CBC by integrating elements from MACOS. First, the lack of focus on the concept formation process in CBC can be supplemented by referring to MACOS’s methods of providing materials. Second, concerns about the hierarchical degradation of teacher retraining can be mitigated through MACOS’s self-reflection checklist approach. Third, the lack of consideration for student background diversity in assessments can be improved by incorporating MACOS’s score adjustment methods. Fourth, the evaluation experience can be enriched by utilizing various assessment methods from MACOS, in addition to student self-assessment rubrics. Although MACOS has limitations due to historical and cultural contexts, it reflects various aspects of CBC and contributes to rethinking the fundamental purposes and directions of curriculum evaluation. Furthermore, based on the similarities between MACOS and CBC, a new curriculum model that emphasizes both knowledge and critical thinking can be proposed.
