국문 초록

본 연구는 현재 학교 환경교육을 분산적인 방법으로 담당하고 있는 중 • 고등학교 사회과교사들의 환경교육에 관한 의식을 조사해서 제한적이나마 한국의 학교 환경교육의 실태를 파악해 보고，더 나아가 학교 환경교육 발전을 위한 방안을 모색해 봄으로써 사회과에서 환경교육의 효율성을 제고하려는데 목적이 있다. 사회과에 초점을 맞춰 학교 환경교육의 발전 방안을 논의하면，제6 ' 7차 교육과정에서 「환경」교과가 독립되어 있고, 사회과 등 일부 교과에 환경내용이 분산되어 있지만， 앞으로는 환경교육의 통합성 원칙에 의거 통합교과인 사회과에서 환경교육을 통합적으로 지도하여야 한다. 사회과의 대상이 될 수 있는 동질의 환경영역이나 주제가 환경교과로 독립되어 있음은 불완전하고 파행적인 환경교육이 될 수 있기 때문이다. 또한 내용의 중복과 상호배치되는 관계로 독립교과와 분산교과 간에 갈등의 발생과 교육력의 낭비, 그리고 학생들의 혼란 등이 수반될 수 있다. 환경문제는 결국 개인과 사회적 의사결정의 결과로서 나타나므로 환경교육은 역시 인간과 사회를 다루는 사회과에서 담당하면 보다 효과적일 것이다. 이렇게 할 경우 학생들의 교과목수 과다에 따른 학습부담을 경감해 주는 부수적인 효과도 기대할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to find out the actual conditions of environmental education in Korean schools. Although it is limited, by making a survey of the conscience of teachers of social studies in middle and high schools regarding environmental education, who are currently in charge of it in a decentralized way and proceed to enhance its efficiency in a subject of social studies by seeking measures for the development of this education in school. For the development of environmental education in school that pays more attention to a subject of social studies, the environmental education, which is covered not only in 「Environment」as a separate subject but also some of the subjects including society dispersedly in the 6th and 7th curriculums, must be led in a integrative way within a subject of society that is integrated in line with the integrity principal of environmental education in the future. It is because the environmental education could be an unstable and aberrational if the spheres or themes of environment that can be covered in a subject of social studies are also found in a separate subject of Environment. In addition, the duplication of contents and the mutual contradiction may cause the conflict between a separate subject and a dispersed subject as well as the waste of education capacity, accompanied by students' confusion and so on. Since environmental problems are the consequences of individual and social decisions, education will be more efficient when it is covered in the subject of society, which deals with human beings and societies. By doing this, we could also expect the windfall of reducing students' burden in learning due to the excessive number of subjects.
