국문 초록

남북한의 통일과 한반도의 평화 정착은 매우 복잡한 역학관계를 가진다. 특히 해방 이후의 역사적 과정을 회고해 볼 때, ‘평화’와 ‘통일’은 한반도 분단 극복이라는 역사적 과제에 있어 지속적으로 함께 논의되어야 할 교육범주이기도 하다. 본 연구에서는 한반도 평화를 이룰 수 있는 교육적 노력의 일환으로 한국에서의 평화교육 발전 과정과 통일교육의 흐름을 살펴보고, 이질적으로 전개되어 왔던 서로의 접목 지점을 검토해 보면서, 관련 문서를 비판적으로 해독하여 분석한 결과를 토대로, 향후 방향을 제안하고자 한다. 평화교육으로서의 통일교육은 첫째, 한반도 평화의 문화 조성이 최우선적으로 설정되어, 평화시민성(peace-oriented citizenship) 함양이 교육 목표로 전환되어야 한다. 둘째, 도덕ㆍ윤리 교육적 성격을 넘어, 한반도 분단 상황에 대한 비판적 사고를 통해 글로벌 정의라는 적극적 평화 구현을 도모하는 목적을 지녀야 한다. 셋째, 관용과 다양성의 유네스코 평화교육 원리를 기반으로 평화교육 철학이 통일교육에 담보되어야 한다.

영문 초록

The inter-Korean unification and the peace-building on the Korean Peninsula have involved the complicated dynamic relationship. In retrospect of the post-liberation historical process, ‘peace’ and ‘unification’ are also educational categories that should be continuously discussed together in the historical task of overcoming the division of the Korean Peninsula. Based on the critically codifying and analyzing the related documents, this study examines the development of peace education in Korea and the history of unification education as part of educational efforts for the purpose of peace-building on the Korean Peninsula. Thus, we suggest the future directions: firstly, unification education as a peace education should be set as a top priority to create a culture of peace on the Korean Peninsula, and the cultivation of peace-oriented citizenship should be converted to educational goals. Secondly, beyond moral or ethical education, it should aim to promote the positive peace on the ground of global justice through critical thinking in the context for overcoming the division of Korean Peninsula. Thirdly, the philosophy of peace education based on the UNESCO principles of “tolerance” and “diversity” should be secured in unification education.
