부모의 사회경제적 지위가 자녀의 직업포부에 미치는 영향: 매개과정과 상호작용효과

국문 초록

성인이행기의 직업포부는 향후 사회경제적 성공에 있어 중요한 요인인데, 한국사회에서 이는 부모의 사회경제적 지위에 의해 일정한 영향을 받을 가능성이 있다. 본 연구는 부모의 사회경제적 지위를 다섯 가지 차원으로 나누어, 이러한 부모의 다양한 지위가 고교 3학년 학생의 직업포부와 어떤 관계를 갖는지 확인하고, 그러한 관계를 매개하거나 조절하는 요인 으로 부모의 교육기대와 자녀 학업성취의 역할을 검토한다. 이를 위해 한국청소년패널조사 중2패널 4차년도와 5차년도 자료를 활용하여 상관분석, 구조방정식 모형 분석, 상호작용 효 과 분석을 수행하였다. 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 부모의 학력, 직업지위, 소득수준이 자녀의 직업포부, 자녀에 대한 교육기대 그리고 학업성취도와 정적인 상관관계를 보였다. 둘 째, 아버지와 어머니의 사회적 지위와 자녀의 직업포부의 관계가 부모의 교육기대와 학업성 적에 의해 실질적으로 매개되고 있음을 구조방정식 모형을 통해 확인하였다. 셋째, 아버지의 학력과 자녀의 학업성취는 자녀의 직업포부를 증폭시키는 상호작용효과를 보였고, 어머니의 직업지위와 자녀의 학업성취는 자녀의 직업포부에 대한 상호대체적인 상호작용효과를 보였 다.

영문 초록

Students’ levels of occupational aspiration during the transition toward adulthood is a significant contributing factor in their future socio-economic success. However, there is a likelihood that students’ levels of occupational aspiration in South Korea could be substantially influenced by parents’ socio-economic status (SES). Classifying by five dimensions of parents’ SES, this study therefore investigates the relationships between parents’ SES with their children’s levels of occupational aspiration, and the roles of parents’ educational expectation and children’s academic achievement as mediation or interaction variables. Using nationally representative data from the Korea Youth Panel Survey (2006-2007), this study conducted a correlation analysis, structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis, and interaction analysis. The main findings of this study can be broadly summarized as follows. First, there were statistically significant relationships that parents’ occupational status and their education and income levels were correlated with the levels of children’s occupational aspiration. Secondly, the SEM analysis revealed that the relationships between parents’ SES and children’s occupational aspiration were mediated by the parents’ educational expectation and children’s academic achievement. Lastly, fathers’ education levels and children’s academic achievement had a significant positive interaction effect on the levels of children’s occupational aspiration. The negative interaction effect on the children’s levels of occupational aspiration, in addition, was found between mothers’ occupational status and children’s academic achievement.
