학술지 『대중음악』의 연구 동향 분석 - 한국대중음악학회 20주년을 맞이하며

국문 초록

본 논문은 한국대중음악학회 학술지 『대중음악』의 2008년 창간호부터2024년 34호까지 게재된 논문 총 231편의 동향 분석 연구이다. 연구의 목적은 연도별 게재 현황, 연구주제별, 연구방법별 분류를 통한 분석과 저자, 소속, 지역, 논문 종류, 언어, 주제어 분석을 통해 『대중음악』의 연구 동향을 파악하는 데 있다. 연구결과, 연평균 13.6편의 논문이 게재되었고, 등재지 전환 이후논문 게재 수가 증가하였다. 저자는 대학 소속, 연구원, 박사 이상 등의 연구자가 61.9%로 다수를 차지했고, 해외 연구자, 아티스트 등 다양한 배경의 저자가 참여하고 있었다. 연구주제는 문화 및 사회 연구주제가 57.2%로 가장 많았으며, 특히 사회문화 비판 담론이 중심축으로 연구되었다. 연구방법은 문헌연구와 사례연구 등 질적 연구가 가장 많은 방법론으로 활용되었다. 최근에는음악연구와 음악교육 관련 주제가 증가하고 있으며, 음악 분석, 인터뷰 연구등 다양한 방법론 활용도 증가하였다. 가장 많이 나타난 주제어는 ‘대중음악’, ‘재즈’, ‘대중가요’, ‘한국대중음악’, ‘케이팝’ 순이었다. 본 연구는 학술지『대중음악』이 16년간 축적해 온 연구 경향과 향후 과제를 조망하였고, 대중음악연구의 발전 방향을 모색하는 기초자료로서 그 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This paper presents a trend analysis of 231 articles published in the journal Popular Music by the Korean Association for the Study of Popular Music, from its first issue in 2008 to the 34th issue in 2024. The purpose of this study is to identify research trends in the journal by examining publication frequency by year, research topics, and research methods, as well as by analyzing authorship, affiliations, regions, article types, languages, and subject keywords. On average, 13.6 articles were published annually, with the number of publications increasing after the journal was promoted to a KCI-listed journal.. The majority of authors (61.9%) were affiliated with universities, and most were researchers holding a PhD or higher. Overseas researchers accounted for 9.3%, and authors from diverse backgrounds, including independent researchers and artists, also contributed. The most prevalent research topics were cultural and social studies (57.2%), especially socio-cultural critical discourse. Qualitative research methods, such as literature reviews and case studies, were the most commonly employed methodologies. Recently, research topics on music studies and music education have increased, and diverse methodologies—including music analysis, interviews, surveys, and mixed methods—are being used more frequently. The most frequent thematic keywords included ‘popular music’, ‘jazz’, ‘popular song’, ‘Korean popular music’, and ‘K-pop’. When categorized by research subject, ‘popular music in general’, ‘music genres’, and ‘K-pop and Hallyu’ appeared most frequently. This study reviews the research trends and future issues accumulated by the journal over the past 16 years and provides a valuable foundation for exploring the future direction of popular music research.
