중도유형문화권 매장 의례의 사회경제적 의미에 대한 시론적 접근

국문 초록

본 연구는 중도유형 물질문화 형성 과정에 대한 설득력 있는 모델 수립의 토대를 마련하기 위해 수공품 생산이 발달한 사회에서 매장 의례가 가지는 사회경제적 의미에 대한 이론적 접근을 시도하였다. 먼저, 농경지 접근성이 제한되고 이주민의 유입이 활발한 중도유형 사회에서 철기의 생산 및 교역 발달과 의례를 통한 사회 통합이 어떻게 이루어질 수 있는지를 주변성 관점에서 검토하였다. 다음, 적석분구묘의 입지와 경관, 부장품 구성 양상을 살펴 중도유형문화권 매장 의례 특징을 파악한 후, 네트워크 분석 결과를 토대로 중도유형사회에서 매장 의례 공유가 가지는 사회경제적 의미에 대해 고찰하였다. 연구 결과는 농경 핵심지역의 주변에 해당하는 중도유형문화권 재지 주민들이 낮은 농업 생산성을 보완할 경제적 대안으로 이주민들과 철기 생산기술을 적극 수용하고, 그에 따라 사회 통합 및 네트워크 구축이 요구되면서 공동체 기반의 적석분구묘를 축조하고 철기 생산품을 비롯해 관옥과 동환 등 위세품을 소비하는 매장 의례를 수행하였음을 보여준다. 결과적으로 지역 내·지역 간 사회관계망이 강화되면서 중도유형사회가 수공품 생산 경제를 발전시켜 나갈 수 있었을 것으로 추정하였다.

영문 초록

This study attempted a theoretical approach to the socioeconomic significance of burial rituals in the iron production economy in order to lay the foundation for establishing a convincing model of the formation process of the Jung-do Type Culture. First, I theoretically examined how the adoption of a craft production economy and social integration through rituals could be achieved in a Jungdo-type society characterized by “marginality,” limited access to farmland, and active influx of immigrants. Subsequently, the study examined the location, landscape, and composition of burial goods of stone-piled burial mounds (Jeogseogbungumyo ) to identify the characteristics of burial rituals in the Jung-do Type Culture. Then, the socioeconomic significance of shared burial rituals in the iron production economy was considered based on the results of network analysis. The findings of the study indicate that the local inhabitants of the Jung-do Type cultural sphere, which corresponds to the area surrounding the core agricultural region, actively adopted iron production technology from immigrants as a component of their livelihood strategy. Consequently, social integration and network building became imperative, resulting in the construction of communal tombs and the performance of burial rituals involving the consumption of iron, jade, and bronze rings, which were the primary products of the iron production economy. This process resulted in the strengthening of social networks within and between regions, thereby facilitating the transition of the Jungdo-type society to an iron production economy.
