국문 초록

본 연구는 경기도 N시에 소재한 도농복합지역 경로당 이용자들을 대상으로 웰다잉에 대한 인식을 심층적으로 탐구하여, 초고령사회를 맞이하는 좋은 죽음에 대한 논의를 심도 있게 탐색한 사례연구이다. 이 연구에서는 경로당이라는 생활 밀착형 공간을 중심으로 노년층의 웰다잉 인식과 관련한 실제 경험과 인식을 분석하였다. 연구 방법은 질적 사례연구 방법으로 N시 소재의 4개 경로당 이용자 7명을 대상으로 반 구조화된 심층 면담을 진행하였다. 연구 결과 ‘웰다잉 준비의 필요성’, ‘가족에게 부담을 주지 않는 죽음’, ‘웰다잉 인식 교육과 정보 부족’, ‘경로당 활동의 심리적 안정 효과’, ‘경제적 준비와 웰다잉’으로 나타났다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 노년층의 웰다잉 인식을 밝히고 초고령사회에서 노인의 삶과 죽음에 대한 상담 및 프로그램의 개발과 실천 교육이 가능한 노인복지의 열린 공간으로 경로당이 전환될 필요성을 제기하였다.

영문 초록

This study is a case study that thoroughly examines perceptions of well-dying among senior center users in N-City, Kyonggi-do, offering an in-depth look at discussions about a good death within the context of a super-aged society. It analyzes the experiences and perceptions related to well-dying among the elderly, focusing on senior centers (Gyeonglodang) as community-based spaces. The research employed a qualitative case study approach, conducting semi-structured in-depth interviews with seven users from four senior centers in N-City. The findings revealed several key themes: the necessity of preparing for well-dying, the desire for death without burdening family, the lack of education and information on well-dying, the psychological stabilizing effects of senior center activities, and the importance of economic preparation for well-dying. These findings illuminate the elderly's views on well-dying and underscore the need for senior centers to evolve into open spaces for elderly welfare. This transformation would facilitate the development and implementation of counseling and programs that address life and death issues for the elderly in a super-aged society.
