군인의 가정폭력 피해경험과 폭력행위와의 관계

국문 초록

군대 조직 내에서는 온라인 불법도박, 위계적 통제, 병영부조리, 열악한 근무환경 등 다양한 부적응 문제가 존재한다. 특히, 군대 내 구성원들의 폭력행위는 다양한 군대 내 가혹행위와 깊이 연관되어 있는 경우가 많다. 무엇보다도 군대 내 가혹행위는 범죄사실이 외부에 잘 알려지지 않고 군대의 위계적, 폐쇄적 하위문화로 해당 폭력이 반복, 대물림된다는 특징이 있다. 이 연구에서는 피해자학에서 중요하게 다루는 “피해-가해 중첩이론(Victim-offender overlap theory)”을 바탕으로 군인이 겪은 유년 시절의 가정폭력 피해경험이 군내 가해행위에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 실증적으로 분석하고자 하였다. 연구를 위해 2025년 5월 약 한 달 동안 군인(예비역 포함)을 대상으로 자기보고식 인터넷 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 이중 조직 내 군 생활의 구조적 차이가 많은 40대 이상 응답자 3명과 유효하지 않은 응답을 제외하고 총 104명을 연구 대상으로 설정하였다. 또한, 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시하여 과거 가정폭력 피해 경험이 군내 폭력 가해경험과 어떤 연관성을 가지는지 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 연구대상자의 직접적 가정폭력피해 경험과 간접적 가정폭력피해 경험이 서로 상이하게 군 내 폭력 가해경험에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 다른 변인들을 모두 통제했을 때, 직접적인 가정폭력 피해경험은 유의미하게 군대 내 폭력행위를 감소시키는 반면, 간접적인 가정폭력피해 경험은 유의미하게 군대 폭력행위를 증가시키는 반대의 결과를 보였다. 이러한 결과는 형식적 병력관리 중심의 접근을 넘어, 병사 개개인이 경험한 과거 가정폭력피해 경험을 하나의 중요한 사전 위험요인으로 파악하여 직접적 피해와 간접적 피해를 세심하게 구분해야 함을 시사한다. 또한, 향후 가정폭력 피해경험을 가진 군인의 폭력행위가 어떤 전이과정을 거쳐 발현되는지 추가로 논의되어야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

This study aims at investigating the impact of prior domestic violence victimization experience on violence of military persons in South Korea. The key dependent variable of violence was measured in terms of both the subjective perception toward aggressions for the military setting and objective violent behaviors that military service members had committed. This present study utilized the “Victim- Offender Overlapping Theory” as a crucial theory framework in order to identify the relationships between prior domestic violence victimization experience and problematic behaviors of the military service members. The total 108 soldiers and military service members were participated in the self-reported survey for the analysis. The survey was conducted for approximately a month in May, 2025. Descriptive statistics and logistic regression were utilized in order to examine the association between the prior domestic violence victimization experience and aggressive behaviors in the military setting. Result demonstrates that age(+), direct victimization(-) and indirect victimization(-) experience are statistically significant factors that are related to the violent behaviors of military service members when other variables are controlled. Interestingly, the direction of direct domestic victimization and indirect domestic violence victimization experience were not consistent in terms of the relationships with violence behaviors in the context of military environment. Further policy implications will be discussed.
