국문 초록

This study analyzed 680 news articles on workation published in major Korean media from 2021 to 2024 using topic modeling and network analysis. Key keywords included “Busan,” “local areas,” “tourists,” “government,” “local governments,” “stay,” and “products,” highlighting core themes in the workation discourse. “Busan” emerged as a strategic hub, while terms like “local areas” and “local governments” underscored the role of policy support and potential for regional expansion. Additionally, keywords such as “contents,” “foreigners,” “remote work,” and “investment” indicate that workation encompasses not just a new work style but a multifaceted phenomenon involving economic, social, technological, and policy dimensions. For instance, “contents” aid in developing stay-type tourism assets, “foreigners” are tied to multicultural and regional settlement strategies, “remote work” reflects flexible employment trends, and “investment” is linked to platform-driven regional innovation. These insights reveal workation as a structural shift aligned with national and regional agendas such as local economic revitalization, population dispersion, and balanced development. Accordingly, several policy implications are proposed. First, Busan's high network centrality supports its development of long-term stay content, digital nomad infrastructure, and co-working/startup spaces. Second, the prominence of terms like “local areas,” “settlement,” and their co-occurrence with “crisis” and “migration” suggests that workation can support regional revitalization and population strategies through subsidies, infrastructure, and exchange programs. Third, the importance of “contents” and “investment” calls for experiential workation programs and policies fostering tourism and digital startups.
