현대 사회 새로운 부부관계의 형태 중 하나로 졸혼에 대한 대중적 담론이 지속해서 축적되고 있음에도 불구하고 아직 국내에서 수행된 졸혼에 관한 학문적 논의는 미비하다. 이에 본연구는 졸혼을 고려하거나 결정하는 주요 연령층인 중ㆍ노년기 기혼자를 대상으로 이들의 졸혼 의향과 졸혼 동기를 구성하는 요인을 경험적으로 검증하기 위해 수행되었다. 이를 위한 연구 대상은 20년 이상 법적 혼인관계를 유지 중이며 한 명 이상의 성인 자녀를 둔 중ㆍ노년기기혼자 418명이다. 졸혼 의향 및 졸혼 동기의 개념적 타당성 및 신뢰도를 검증하기 위한 분석방법으로는 주성분 분석과 확인적 요인분석, 제2차 확인적 요인분석 및 신뢰도 분석을 수행하였으며, 도출된 요인분석 결과를 토대로 각 하위요인 간 상관분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 졸혼 의향의 경우 단일 요인으로 구성되었으며, 졸혼 동기의 경우 ‘개인 중심 독립적 동기’와 ‘부부 중심 정서적 동기’, ‘가족ㆍ상황적 동기’, ‘경제적 동기’의 총 4개 요인으로 구성되었다. 이와 같은 본 연구의 결과는 졸혼을 결정하게 되는 궁극적 동기가 단일차원에서가 아닌다차원적 차원에서 이해되어야 함을 시사한다. 본 연구는 졸혼과 관련된 측정도구 개발에 기초자료를 제공하였으며, 부부가 상호 만족할 수 있는 대안적 관계 방식으로서 졸혼의 실천 방향을 제시하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

Despite the continuous accumulation of public discourse on Jol-hon (graduating from marriage) as one of the new forms of marital relationships in modern society, academic practice on graduating from marriage in Korea is still insufficient. Therefore, this study aimed to empirically explore the factors underlying intentions to graduate from marriage and motivations for graduating from marriage among middle-aged and older adults. The sample comprised 418 married adults aged 45 and above who have been married for more than 20 years with at least one adult child. For the analysis, principal component analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, second-order confirmatory factor analysis, reliability analysis, and correlation analysis were conducted to verify the conceptual validity and reliability of ‘intentions to graduate from marriage’ and ‘motivations for graduating from marriage’. As a result, one factor was derived for intentions to graduate from marriage, and four factors were derived for motivations for graduating from marriage: ‘individual-oriented motivations for independence’, ‘couple-oriented emotional motivations’, ‘family-related and situational motivations’, and ‘economic motivations’. These findings suggest that the ultimate motivations for deciding to graduate from marriage should be understood in a multidimensional rather than a single dimension. This study contributes by providing foundational data for the development of measurement tools related to graduating from marriage and by proposing a practical framework for approaching it as an alternative relationship arrangement.
