국문 초록

본 연구는 중년기 비혼여성들이 다양한 사회적 관계 속에서 자아정체감을 재구성하는 과정을 탐색하고 이들의 고유한 삶의 경험을 심층적으로 이해하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해40세 이상의 비혼여성 7명을 대상으로 개별 심층 면담을 실시하고, Giorgi의 현상학적 연구절차에 따라 자료를 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 중년기 비혼여성들은 사회적 관계의 맥락에 따라다면적인 자아정체감을 형성하였다. 가족 관계에서는 ‘돌봄의 책임을 안고 자율성을 향해 나아감’, 직장 관계에서는 ‘사회적 낙인을 넘어 주체적 직업 정체성 형성’, 친구 관계에서는 ‘관계 재편과 새로운 유대의 필요성 인식’, 이성 관계에서는 ‘관계의 가능성을 열어두며 혼자서도 충분한 나’, 커뮤니티 관계에서는 ‘새로운 소속을 통한 사회적 연결의 확장’, 나 자신과의관계에서는 ‘홀로됨의 불안이 자립으로 이끄는 동력’으로 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해 중년기비혼여성들이 다양한 관계 속에서 사회적 기대와 갈등을 조율하며 자아정체감을 재구성하는과정을 확인하였으며, 이들이 직면하는 심리사회적 과제에 대한 상담적ㆍ제도적ㆍ정책적 지원방안을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

This study aims to explore how middle-aged never-married women reconstruct their self-identity through various social relationships and to gain an in-depth understanding of their unique life experiences. In-depth individual interviews were conducted with seven never-married women aged 40 and over, and the data were analyzed using Giorgi’s phenomenological research method. The analysis revealed that middle-aged never-married women form multifaceted identities depending on the context of their relationships. In family relationships, they experience “bearing the responsibility of caregiving while pursuing autonomy”; in workplace relationships, they form “a proactive occupational identity beyond social stigma”; in friendships, they recognize “the need for restructuring relationships and forming new bonds”; in romantic relationships, they adopt “an openness to possibilities while feeling complete on their own”; in community relationships, they experience “expanding social connections through new affiliations”; and in their relationship with themselves, they find that “the anxiety of solitude becomes a driving force for self-reliance.” This study confirms the process by which middle-aged never-married women navigate social expectations and conflicts to reconstruct their self-identity and proposes counseling, institutional, and policy support measures to address the psychological and social challenges they face.
