조선후기 ‘경관 문화’로서의 팔경(八景)과 누정팔경(樓亭八景) - 괴산 지역 누정팔경의 사례

국문 초록

경관 문화란 특정 경관을 지향하는 어떤 문화 집단의 특별한 의식과 인식과 실천을 뜻한다. 결과로서의 팔경은 문화경관 범주에 속하겠지만 동인으로서의 팔경은 경관 문화에 해당한다. 팔경 문화는 중국에서 등장한 것으로 알려져 있는데, 개념적으로는 유교, 도교, 불교 등의 여러 사상과 관련된 것으로 문명 간 대화와 문화 간 교류의 복합적 산물로 이해할 필요가 있다. 한반도의 팔경 문화는 11세기에 등장한 중국 북송 대의 소상팔경을 모제(母題)로 상상지리의 차원에서 전개되었으며, 12세기 이후 도읍팔경, 지방팔경, 읍치팔경, 누정팔경 등 다양한 갈래의 지역화를 이루었다. 특히 조선후기 괴산 지역 누정팔경 사례에서 볼 수 있듯이, 누정팔경은 그 성립의 기본 조건인 누정 영건의 다양한 배경, 팔경 문화의 구체적인 지역화 양상, 누정 주인의 사회적 관계망을 통한 누정팔경의 향유 방식 등을 알게 한다. 누정을 매개로 이루어진 조선후기 유학자들의 팔경 실천은 단순한 미의식을 넘어 자신을 성찰하고 정체성을 사유하는 장소의 창출이었다.

영문 초록

Landscape culture refers to the special consciousness, awareness, and practice of a cultural group that pursues a specific landscape. The ‘Eight Views(八景)’ as a product fall into the category of ‘cultural landscape’, but the Eight Views as an agent correspond to ‘oriental landscape culture’. Although the culture of Eight Views is known to have emerged in China, conceptually it is related to various ideologies such as Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism, and should be understood as a complex product of inter-cultural exchange and dialogue between civilizations. The culture of the Eight Views of the Korean Peninsula had developed in the dimension of imaginary geography, taking the Eight Views of Xiaoxiang during the Northern Song Dynasty of China in the 11th century as its mother subject, and since 12th century had unfolded in various regional branches such as the Eight Views of the capital city[都邑八景], the Eight Views of the provinces[地方八景], the Eight Views of towns[邑治八景], the Eight Views of pavilions[樓亭八景], and the Eight Views of temples[寺刹八景]. In particular, as can be seen in the case of the Eight Views of pavilions of the Goesan[槐山] in the late Joseon Dynasty, the Eight Views of pavilions show the various backgrounds of the Nujeong[樓亭] construction, which are the basic conditions for its establishment, the regionalizational and localizational aspects of the Eight Views culture, and the ways of enjoyment of Eight Views of pavilions through the social network of the Nujeong owner. The practice of the Eight Views by Confucian scholars in the late Joseon Dynasty, which was carried out through pavilions, was the creation of a place to reflect on oneself and think about one's identity, beyond simple aesthetic consciousness.
