삼국시기 기후사 연구의 방법론적 전환 - 산소동위원소비 연륜연대기의 가능성을 중심으로

국문 초록

기후와 질병 그리고 정치ㆍ사회의 상호작용은 고대 동아시아 역사의 전개 과정을 입체적으로 이해하는 데 중요하다. 본고에서는 우선 문헌자료에 기록된 전염병과 기후의 상관관계를 검토하면서 문헌자료를 통한 해석의 한계를 확인하였다. 그리고 이를 극복하기 위한 방안으로 자연과학 연구를 주목할 것을 제안하였다. 다만, 기왕의 자연과학 자료와 연구 방법은 여러 면에서 한계가 있었다고 지적하였다. 그럼에도 최근 연륜고고학에서 활용하고 있는 산소동위원소를 활용한 산소동위원소비 연륜연대 측정법이 새로운 가능성을 열고 있다고 하였다. 이 방법은 고고학의 협업이 필수적이다. 역사학의 협업도 필요하다. 향후 고고학과 역사학 그리고 연륜고고학의 긴밀한 협동 연구가 요청된다.

영문 초록

Understanding the interactions between climate, disease, and socio-political factors is crucial for a comprehensive understanding of the development of ancient East Asian history. This paper first examines the correlation between epidemics and climate recorded in historical documents, identifying the limitations of interpretations based solely on literary sources. To overcome these limitations, it suggests focusing on research from the natural sciences. However, it also points out that previous natural science data and research methods have had several limitations. Nonetheless, it introduces the recent use of oxygen isotope ratios in dendrochronology as opening new possibilities. This method can yield precise results through collaboration with archaeology. Cooperation with historians is also essential. Therefore, close collaborative research among archaeology, history, and dendrochronology is required in the future.
