이상의 ‘황(獚)’ 계열시와 ｢무제｣의 사상

국문 초록

이상의 소위 ‘유고 노트’에서 발굴된 텍스트들 가운데 ‘황’ 계열시라는 이름으로 불리는 것들이 있다. 본고에서는 이 가운데 “역원이 가지고 오는……”으로 시작되는 ｢무제｣를 중 심으로 이 텍스트와 ‘황’ 계열시와의 상호텍스트적 관계를 살피고, 이상이 ｢무제｣의 글쓰 기를 통해 드러내고자 했던 고유한 사상을 가시화하고자 하였다. 이상은 ‘황’ 계열시 가운데 ｢1931년(작품 제1번)｣과 ｢황의 기 작품 제2번｣에서 ‘인간(나)’과 ‘동물(황)’ 사이의 뇌수(腦髓)를 연결하는 문제에 주목하여 일종의 ‘일원론적’ 생명관을 지향하면서, 유기체(종자)와 무기체(대리석)를 뚜렷이 구분하여 인식하는 근대 과학적 이분법을 넘어선 상 상력을 보여주고 있었다. ｢무제｣의 글쓰기가 또한 이러한 사상의 완성을 위해 시도되는 일련의 실험 과정을 기록하고 있는 것처럼 보인다. 이상은 ｢무제｣의 글쓰기를 통해서 ‘프로톤(양성자)’이라는 물질의 최소 단위 차원으로 시각을 확장하여 세계를 새롭게 인식함 으로써, 인간과 동물, 유기체와 무기체, 생(生)과 사(死)의 화해 불가능한 이분법적 구분 을 넘어서려는 시도를 보여주었다. 전통적인 주체/객체의 이분법을 해체하고 그것을 극복하려는 사상을 실험하고 있다는 점에서 ｢무제｣를 통해 표현된 일원론적 생명관의 전위성을 평가할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

Texts discovered posthumously among Yi Sang’s unpublished works include those known as the “Hwang” series of poems. In this paper, I examine the intertextual relationship between an untitled manuscript (“Untitled”) and the “Hwang” series and then analyze the ideas Yi Sang sought to express through the composition of the latter. In the “Hwang” series—particularly in “1931 (Work No. 1)” and “Hwang’s Record, Work No. 2”—Yi Sang focuses on the problem of linking the brains of the human (“I”) and animal (“Hwang”), thereby aspiring toward a monistic life view. Simultaneously, these poems exhibit an imaginative leap that transcends the modern scientific dichotomy, which separates the organic (the seed) from the inorganic (the marble). The experimental procedures undertaken to precisely realize this philosophical vision is recorded in “Untitled.” Furthermore, in “Untitled,” Yi Sang embodies an expansion of perspective to the proton level—the most fundamental unit of matter— thus enabling a renewed perception of the world. Subsequently, he attempts to transcend the dichotomous distinctions between human and animal, organic and inorganic, and life (生) and death (死). In this context, the monistic view of life presented in “Untitled” can be appreciated for its avant-garde, in that it deconstructs the typical subject/object dualism and presents an idea that extends beyond the horizons of modern thought.
