국문 초록

WYD는 교회의 복음화 사명이 성인에게서 젊은이에게로 확장된 핵심적 사목 전략으로, 젊은이들의 신앙을 성숙시키고, 그들 스스로가 복음화의 주역이 될 수 있도록 양성하는 중요한 장이다. 본 연구는 WYD 제정을 중심으로 복음화 사명 주체가 성인에서 젊은이로 확장된 과정과 역대 WYD의 메시지 및 형태 발전을 통해 복음화와의 관계를 고찰하고, 현대 한국 교회의 문화적 변동 상황을 분석했다. 특히 한국 사회의 문화변동기 속에서 가정과 본당이 직면한 현실을 분석하고, 교회 문화 변동 상황에서 WYD의 성공적 결실을 위한 사목적 패러다임 전환 필요성을 제시했다. 연구 결과, WYD가 단순한 일회성 행사가 아닌 교회 쇄신의 기회가 되기 위해서는 ‘분리된 교회’에서 ‘가정 친화적 사목을 지향하는 교회’로, ‘유지하는 교회’에서 ‘사명에 초점을 둔 교회’로의 패러다임 전환이 필요함을 제안한다. 이를 실현하기 위한 구체적 방안으로 WYD 준비기간, 교구대회와 본대회, 그리고 WYD 이후 지속적인 신앙 실천을 포함한 전 과정 안에서 성인 신자들의 적극적인 참여 없이는 젊은이 복음화가 지속될 수 없음을 강조하며 본당과 가정이 WYD를 함께 준비하고 실행해나갈 구체적인 전략을 제시했다. 결론적으로 본 논문은 WYD가 단지 젊은이 행사가 아닌, 온 교회가 ‘젊은 교회’로 살아가는 시노달리타스 여정임을 확인하며, 가정과 본당의 복음화가 WYD를 통해 가능하다는 전망을 제시한다.

영문 초록

World Youth Day represents a pivotal pastoral strategy wherein the Church's evangelization mission has expanded from adults to young people, providing an essential forum for nurturing the faith of youth and forming them to become protagonists of evangelization. This study examines the relationship between evangelization and WYD by analyzing the process through which the subject of the evangelization mission expanded from adults to young people, centered on the institution of WYD, as well as the development of messages and formats throughout successive World Youth Days. Additionally, it analyzes the cultural transitions in the contemporary Korean Church. The research particularly examines the realities faced by families and pa- rishes amid Korea's cultural transitions and proposes the necessity of a pastoral paradigm shift to ensure fruitful outcomes from WYD within the context of ecclesiastical cultural change. The findings suggest that for WYD to serve as an opportunity for ecclesial renewal rather than merely a one-time event, a paradigm shift is required: from a “separated Church” to a “Church oriented toward family-friendly pastoral care,” and from a “maintenance Church” to a “missionary Church” As concrete strategies for implementation, the study emphasizes that the evangelization of young people cannot be sustained without the active participation of adult faithful throughout the entire process from the WYD preparation period, through Days in Dioceses period and main WYD celebration, to continuous faith praxis following WYD. Specific strategies are presented for parishes and families to collaboratively prepare for and implement WYD. In conclusion, this study affirms that WYD is not merely an event for youth but a synodal journey through which the entire Church lives as a “young Church”, offering the prospect that the evangelization of families and parishes can be achieved through World Youth Day.
