본 논문은 1994년 영화 『포레스트 검프』를 들뢰즈의 핵시어티(haecceity) 개념을 중심으로 분석하며, 현대 영화 속 주체성에 대한 윤리적·존재론적 재해석 가능성을 제시한다. 핵시어티는 동일성과 본질의 고정된 틀을 벗어나 사건, 리듬, 감응을 통해 개별성을 구성하며, 주체를 생성과 접속의 흐름으로 이해하게 한다. 포레스트는 일관된 자아를 형성하려 하지 않고, 타자와 세계에 비의도적이고 비소유적으로 반응하는 존재 양식을 보여준다. 이는 들뢰즈의 기관 없는 몸과 감지 불가능해지기의 개념을 통해 고정된 의미나 심리적 해석을 넘어선 비자기중심적 주체성으로 해석된다. 또한 본 연구는 들뢰즈의 내재철학이 레비나스의 타자 윤리와 만나는 지점을 탐색하며, 포레스트의 조용한 응답성과 타자에 대한 열림이 ‘비대칭적 책임’이라는 윤리적 사유를 구체화한다고 본다. 『트루먼 쇼』와 『에브리씽 에브리웨어 올 앳 원스』와의 비교를 통해, 포레스트의 고요한 현존이 위기를 통한 자아 형성이라는 현대 서사에 대한 윤리적·미학적 대안을 제시함을 밝힌다.

영문 초록

This paper explores the ethical and ontological aspects of Forrest Gump (1994) through Deleuze’s concept of haecceity, which refers to a unique mode of being defined by affect, movement, and presence rather than identity. Forrest is interpreted not as a psychological subject but as a cinematic expression of a life that is open, receptive, and ethically engaged without the need for control or self-definition. Concepts such as the Body without Organs and becoming imperceptible help frame Forrest’s quiet resistance to fixed meaning and narrative mastery. Levinas’s ethics of vulnerability further reveals how Forrest’s gentle care for others reflects a way of being grounded in relational openness. Comparisons with The Truman Show and Everything Everywhere All at Once show how Forrest’s stillness offers a subtle alternative to stories centered on crisis and self-discovery. The film ultimately presents a reflection on presence that moves beyond the ego.
