공동주택 층간소음 피해 경험에 관한 현상학적 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 공동주택 층간소음 피해자의 실질적인 경험을 심층적으로 탐구하여, 그 체험의 의미와 본질을 밝히고 층간소음 피해 경험에 대한 이해를 높여, 층간소음으로 인한 갈등과 범죄를 예방하기 위한 정책적 접근의 근거를 제공하는데 목적이 있다. 본 연구는 Giorgi의 현상학적 연구방법에 따라 진행 되었으며, 공동주택 층간소음 피해 경험이 있는 4명의 연구 참여자를 대상으로 심층면접을 진행하여 연구 자료를 수집하였다. 자료 분석 결과, 연구 참여자들의 진술 가운데 126개의 중심의미를 구성하였고 이 중심의미로부터 32개의 상황적 구조를 발견하여 최종 9개의 본질적 구조를 도출하였다. 연구 결과를 요약하면 첫째, 층간소음은 개인의 신체적·정신적 안녕을 위협하는 침해적 폭력으로 경험된다. 둘째, 층간소음은 격렬한 분노와 학습된 무기력(learned helplessness)을 초래하며, 이로 인해 감정 조절과 행동 통제 능력이 저하되고 공격성이 증가할 수 있다. 셋째, 실효성과 강제성이 결여된 제도의 한계와 이웃과의 소통의 어려움은 층간소음 고통을 심화시킨다. 넷째, 층간소음은 개인 간의 문제가 아닌 사회 시스템의 문제로 층간소음에 대한 사회적 인식의 개선과 도움이 필요하다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 층간소음 문제에 조기 개입할 수 있는 형사사법적 대응체계의 필요성, 층간소음 피해자를 위한 심리적 지원체계 구축, 효율적인 분노 조절 및 의사소통을 위한 전문 매뉴얼 개발과 교육 체계의 구축을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

This study aims to conduct an in-depth investigation of the actual experiences of victims of inter-floor noise disturbances in multi-family housing, with the goal of uncovering the meaning and essence of those experiences, enhancing understanding of inter-floor noise victimization, and ultimately providing a foundation for policy- level approaches to prevent conflicts and crimes arising from inter-floor noise. Employing Giorgi’s phenomenological research methodology, in-depth interviews were conducted with four participants who had experienced noise-related harm in multi-family residential settings. Through data analysis, 126 meaning units were identified from participant statements, which were then organized into 32 situated structures, ultimately leading to the derivation of nine essential structures. The findings of this study can be summarized as follows. First, inter-floor noise is experienced as an invasive form of violence that threatens both physical and psychological well-being. Second, it induces intense anger and learned helplessness, which in turn can impair emotional regulation and behavioral control while increasing aggressive tendencies. Third, the limitations of current systems—lacking in both effectiveness and enforceability—along with difficulties in communication with neighbors, further exacerbate the distress caused by inter-floor noise. Fourth, inter- floor noise was understood not as a personal issue but as a systemic social problem, highlighting the need for improved public awareness and structural support. Based on the findings, this study proposes the need to establish an early intervention system within the criminal justice framework to address inter-floor noise issues, to develop a psychological support system for victims, and to create specialized manuals and educational programs for effective anger regulation and interpersonal communication.
