국문 초록

이 연구는 관광의 핵심 가치인 ‘자유’가 관광자의 친환경 행동에 미치는 영향을 규명하고자 한다. 관광산업에서의 기후변화 대응과 탄소중립 실현을 위한 정책이 강화되는 가운데, 관광자의 여행자유의식이 친환경 행동 수용에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 따라서 이 연구는 관광자의 환경의식, 친환경 태도, 탄소중립 관광행동의도 간의 관계를 규명하고 여행자유의식 수준에 따른 영향 관계와 변수 별 차이를 확인하고자, 전국 만 19세 이상의 국민을 대상으로 확률표본추출방식을 적용하여 온라인 설문조사를 진행하였다. 유효표본 839개를 분석한 결과, 환경의식(환경지식, 심각성, 효능감)은 친환경 태도에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤으며, 친환경 태도는 탄소중립 관광행동의도에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 각 변수들 모두 여행자유의식 수준에 따라 유의한 차이가 있었다. 또한 여행자유의식이 낮은 집단에서는 심각성과효능감이 친환경 태도에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않고 다른 관계는 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 반면 여행자유의식이 높은 집단은 모든 관계가 부정적인 영향을 미칠 것이라는 가설과 다르게 모든 관계가 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구는 관광자의 친환경 행동에 대한 연구의 범위를 확장시키며, 탄소중립 관광 정책 및 전략에 대한 실질적인 시사점을 제공한다.

영문 초록

This study explores the impact of freedom, a core value of tourism, on tourists' pro-environmental behavior. Despite increasing policies for climate change mitigation and carbon neutrality in tourism, research on how tourists' travel freedom awareness affects their acceptance of pro-environmental behavior is limited. An online survey targeting Korean nationals aged 19 and older was conducted using a probability sampling method. Findings from the analysis of 839 valid samples reveal that environmental consciousness (knowledge, severity, efficacy) positively influences pro-environmental attitudes, which in turn enhance carbon-neutral tourism behavioral intentions. Significant differences were observed across all variables depending on the level of travel freedom awareness. Additionally, in the low travel freedom awareness group, severity and efficacy did not have a significant impact on pro-environmental attitudes, while all other relationships showed a positive effect. In contrast, contrary to the hypothesis predicting negative effects across all relationships in the group with high travel freedom awareness, the results showed that all relationships had positive impacts. This study broadens the understanding of tourists' pro-environmental behavior and offers practical implications for carbon-neutral tourism policies and strategies.
