국문 초록

본 연구는 여성가족패널조사(KLoWF)의 제7차 및 제8차 데이터를 활용하여 코로나19 팬데믹이 맞벌이 여성 임금근로자의 가사노동 시간에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는지를 종단적으로 분석하였다. 로지스틱 회귀분석 결과, 코로나19 팬데믹 이후 삼사십 대 여성, 미취학 자녀 및 초중등 자녀를 둔 여성, 전문직 종사 여성, 비전통적 가족 가치관을 가진 여성 집단의 가사노동 시간이 눈에 띄게 증가한 것으로 나타났다. 특히 ‘전문직 여성과 비전통적 가사노동 가치관을 가진 여성의 가사노동 시간 증가’라는 기존의 상식과 괴리된 결과는 나이가 젊은 전문직 기혼 여성이 코로나19 이전에 가사노동의 상당 부분을 외부 서비스에 의존하던 구조가 팬데믹으로 인해 무너지면서 나타난 것으로 해석할 수 있다. 이를 통해 코로나19 팬데믹 상황이 고소득 전문직 및 정규직 여성의 가사노동을 가중하고, 궁극적으로는 경력 단절로까지 연결될 수 있다고추론할 수 있다. 연구는 코로나19 팬데믹을 위시한 대규모 사회적 위기 상황에서 기혼 여성의이중부담을 덜어 주기 위한 정책적 대안이 절실히 필요함을 제시하며, 가사노동의 사회적 의미를 새롭게 고찰하는데 이바지한다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This study examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the time spent on housework by female wage earners in dual-income households. It employs three theoretical frameworks - time availability theory, the relative resource perspective, and the doing gender approach - to conduct a longitudinal analysis using data from the seventh and eighth waves of the Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families(KLoWF). Results from logistic regression analysis indicate that women in their thirties and forties, those with preschool and school-age children, professional women, and those with nontraditional family values significantly increased their housework hours after the pandemic. In particular, the increase in housework among professional women and those with nontraditional values challenges traditional assumptions and suggests that the pandemic disrupted the previous reliance of relatively young, married, professional women on outside services for housework. This suggests that the pandemic may have caused higher-earning professional and full-time women to exit the labor market, potentially leading to career interruptions. This study is important because it underscores the urgent need for policy solutions to alleviate the double burden faced by married women during large-scale social crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic and encourages a reassessment of the societal implications of domestic work.
