기독교 대학의 ‘혼합수업(Blended Learning)’에서 메타버스 플랫폼 활용 가능성 연구

국문 초록

이 논문의 목적은 기술의 발전으로 급속한 교육 환경의 변화가 예상되는 기독교 대학의 현실에서 대표적 미래 교육 플랫폼인 메타버스 기반의 프로그램인 ‘게더타운(Gather Town)’을 활용한 혼합수업의 적용 가능성을 확인하고 적절한 수업모형을 제시하는 것이다. 코로나19 이후로 대학은 비대면 온라인 수업을 확대할 수밖에 없는 상황에 직면하고 있다. 기독교 대학도 이런 환경에서 예외일 수 없다. 특히 학령 인구가 감소하면서 대학의 입학 자원이 성인학습자로 확대되는 상황에서 효율적인 교육 환경과 방법을 찾아서 적용해야만 하는 현실이다. 비대면 수업의 단점을 극복하면서 학습자의 만족도를 충족시킬 수 있는 방안이 필요하다. 무엇보다 신학과 기독교 교육 관련 교육과정에 관심을 보이는 학습자들에게 적절한 온라인 콘텐츠와 교육 환경을 제공해야 하는 상황이다. 이런 측면에서 메타버스 플랫폼은 비대면 수업에 효율적이고 적절한 대안이 될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. 본 논문에서는 혼합수업 환경에서 학생들의 수업 참여도를 높이는 방안의 하나로 ‘게더타운’ 플랫폼을 수업에 적용했던 사례를 살펴봄으로써 온라인 수업과 대면 수업이 가지는 한계와 단점을 극복하고자 시도하였다. ‘게더타운’을 수업에 적용함에 있어 현실적인 장애물이 있는 것은 사실이지만, 학습자의 적극적인 참여와 소통을 이끌어 낼 수 있다는 점에서 일반 교육 현장에서뿐 아니라, 신학 관련 수업에서도 충분히 적용할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to confirm the applicability of mixed classes using ‘Gather Town’, a representative future education platform, and to present an appropriate teaching model in the reality of Christian universities that are expected to rapidly change the educational environment due to the development of technology. Since COVID-19, universities are facing no choice but to expand non-face-to-face online classes. Christian universities cannot be an exception in this environment. In particular, in a situation where university admission resources are expanding to adult learners as the school-age population decreases, an efficient educational environment and methods must be found and applied. There is a need for a way to satisfy the satisfaction of learners while overcoming the shortcomings of non-face-to-face classes. Above all, it is necessary to provide appropriate online content and educational environment to learners who are interested in the curriculum related to theology and Christian education. In this respect, the metaverse platform is believed to be an efficient and appropriate alternative to non-face-to-face classes. In this paper, we tried to overcome the limitations and disadvantages of online and face-to-face classes by looking at the cases of applying the ‘Gather Town’ platform to classes as one of the ways to increase students' participation in classes in a mixed class environment. Although it is true that there are practical obstacles to applying “gathertown” to classes, it is expected that it will be sufficiently applied not only in the general educational field but also in theology-related classes in that it can lead to active participation and communication of learners.
