국문 초록

16세기 유럽의 저명한 강연자, 설교자, 그리고 저술가였던 칼빈은 그의 생애를 통해 구·신약 성경 주석과 기독교강요를 남겼다. 다양한 목회활동과 연구를 통해 존 칼빈이 유럽 사회와 후대의 기독교에 끼친 영향력은 가히 막대하다고 할 수 있다. 특히, 성경해석 역사를 통하여, 칼빈은 중세의 어두웠던 성경 해석 시대를 뛰어넘어, 새로운 성경 해석법, 즉 개혁주의 성경 해석이라는 해석의 새로운 장을 열었다고 할 수 있다. 본고는 칼빈의 이사야서 주석에 나타난 위로 모티프에 천착함으로써, 그의 해석에 나타난 개혁주의 성경해석의 함의를 살피고자 한다. 이 목적을 성취하기 위해, 본고는 다음과 같은 절차를 따른다. 첫째, 몇몇 현대 비평학자들과 보수주의 학자들의 위로 모티프에 관한 해석을 간략하게 살펴보고 그들의 해석적 논의들을 개략적으로 파악할 것이다. 둘째, 이사야서의 위로 모티프를 주석한 칼빈의 성경 해석 방식과 실례들을 그의 주석서를 통해 심도 있게 살필 것이다. 본 논문이 갖는 지면의 한계로 인해 이사야서의 정경 구조에서 중요한 역할을 수행하는 이사야 12:1-6, 40:1-11, 61:1-3, 그리고 66:7-14에 나타난 위로 모티프를 중점적으로 살필 것이다. 셋째, 칼빈의 위로 모티프 해석을 통해 도출된 그의 성경 해석 원리들을 정리하고, 이를 근거로 개혁주의 성경 해석을 위한 몇몇 해석학적 함의들―성경의 일반적 의미, 전체성경의 원리, 구속사적 해석, 교회론적·목양적 해석―을 논할 것이다.

영문 초록

Calvin, a prominent lecturer, preacher, and writer in 16th century Europe, left behind commentaries on the Old and New Testaments and the Institutes of the Christian Religion throughout his life. Through his various pastoral activities and research, John Calvin’s influence on European society and later Christianity can be said to be enormous. In particular, through the history of biblical interpretation, Calvin transcended the dark era of biblical interpretation in the Middle Ages and opened a new chapter of biblical interpretation, namely, Reformed biblical interpretation. This paper focuses on the motif of comfort in Calvin’s commentary on Isaiah, and examines the implications of Reformed biblical interpretation in his biblical interpretation. To achieve this goal, this paper follows the following procedures. First, it will briefly examine the interpretations of the motif of comfort by several modern critical scholars and conservative scholars and outline their interpretive discussions. Second, it will deeply examine Calvin’s biblical interpretation methods and examples of his commentary on the motif of comfort in Isaiah through his commentary. Due to the limitations of this paper’s space, we will focus on the motif of comfort in Isaiah 12:1-6, 40:1-11, 61:1-3, and 66:7-14, which play an important role in the canonical structure of Isaiah. Third, we will organize Calvin’s principles of biblical interpretation derived from his interpretation of the motif of comfort, and based on this, we will discuss some hermeneutical implications for Reformed biblical interpretation-the general meaning of the Bible, the principle of the whole Bible, redemptive-historical interpretation, and ecclesiological and pastoral interpretation.
