국문 초록

본 연구는 이라크 작가 시난 안툰의 소설 『오직 석류나무만이』를 중심으로 그가 공식 역사에서 배제되었던 트라우마적 역사의 존재와 그 의미를 회복하기 위해 이를 어떻게 서사적으로 재현하는지를 분석하는 것을 목표로 한다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 역사란 객관적 사실이 아니라 서사를 통해 끊임없이 재구성되는 담론적 구성물이라는 것을 전제로 삼는다. 이러한 관점은 문학이 담론 밖으로 밀려난 역사적 기억을 복원하는 과정에 어떻게 기여할 수 있는지를 이해하는 데 핵심적인 이론적 틀을 제공한다. 소설에서 시난 안툰은 다양한 서사 기법과 문학적 장치를 통해 공인된 역사 담론 이면에 위치한 트라우마적 역사와 그 기억을 드러내고, 이를 통해 억압되고 침묵된 역사적 타자들의 목소리에 서사적 공간을 부여함으로써, 문학이 수행할 수 있는 윤리적 책임과 그 실천 가능성을 제시한다.

영문 초록

This study analyzes Iraqi writer Sinan Antoon’s novel The Pomegranate Alone to explore how he narratively reconstructs and reclaims the presence and significance of traumatic history that have been excluded from official historical accounts. To this end, the study begins from the premise that history is not an objective set of facts, but rather a discursive construct that is continuously reshaped through narrative. This perspective provides a crucial theoretical framework for understanding how literature can contribute to the restoration of historical memories that have been marginalized or silenced within dominant discourses. In the novel, Antoon employs various narrative techniques and literary devices to uncover the traumatic history and its memories concealed beneath authorized historical narratives. Through this, he creates narrative space for the voices of the oppressed and silenced historical Others, thereby presenting the ethical responsibility of literature and its potential for practical intervention.
