국문 초록

본 연구는 노성(魯城) 파평윤씨(坡平尹氏) 종회(宗會)의 운영 방식과 종회시(宗會詩)의 기능 및 의미를 분석하여, 조선 시대 문중 사회에서 종회가 수행한 학문적·윤리적 역할을 규명하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 종회는 단순한 친목 모임을 넘어 유교적 가치 실천과 학문 전승을 위한 중심적 공간으로 기능하였으며, 종약(宗約)을 기반으로 체계적으로 운영되었다. 본 연구에서는 종회의 기능을 존조(尊祖)와 돈종약(敦宗約), 돈친친(惇親親)의 효학(斅學), 덕업상권(德業相勸)의 돈친(敦親)이라는 세 가지 측면에서 고찰하였다. 특히, 종회시는 단순한 문학 창작의 차원을 넘어, 종회의 정신을 문학적으로 형상화하고, 학문적 교유와 윤리적 실천을 촉진하는 실천적 매개체로 기능하였음을 밝혔다. 이를 통해 종회와 종회시가 문중 사회에서 학문과 윤리를 전승하는 중요한 실천적 공간으로 작용했음을 논증하였다. 기존 연구가 종회의 형성과 종회시의 문학적 특징을 중심으로 논의한 것과 달리, 본 연구는 종회시를 통해 문중 강학과 문학 전승의 구체적 양상을 분석하고, 종회의 학문적·윤리적 기능을 종합적으로 규명하고자 하였다. 이를 통해 조선 시대 문중 사회에서 종회가 단순한 친목의 장이 아니라 학문적 연속성과 윤리적 실천을 강화하는 핵심 기제로 작용했음을 밝히는 데 기여하고자 한다. 향후 연구에서는 다른 문중의 종회 및 종회시를 비교 분석하여 조선 시대 문중 강학과 문학 전승의 특성을 보다 입체적으로 탐구할 필요가 있다. 본 연구는 조선 시대 문중 사회에서 학문과 윤리의 실천적 전승 방식을 체계적으로 이해하는 데 기여하는 초석이 될 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

This study aims to analyze the operational structure of the Noseong (魯城) Papyeong Yun (坡平尹) Clan’s Jonghoe (宗會) and the function and significance of Jonghoesi (宗會詩) to elucidate the academic and ethical roles that Jonghoe played in the clan society of the Joseon Dynasty. Beyond serving as a mere social gathering, Jonghoe functioned as a central institution for the practice of Confucian values and the transmission of scholarly traditions, operating systematically based on Jongyak (宗約). This study examines the functions of Jonghoe from three perspectives: Reverence for ancestors (尊祖) and reinforcement of Jongyak (敦宗約), Filial learning through close kinship (惇親親) and shared scholarship (斅學), and Moral cultivation through mutual encouragement (德業相勸) and familial solidarity (敦親). In particular, Jonghoesi was not merely a form of literary creation but served as a literary embodiment of the Jonghoe’s values, reinforcing scholarly exchange and ethical practice. Through this, the study demonstrates that Jonghoe and Jonghoesi functioned as practical spaces for the transmission of both scholarly traditions and moral values within the clan society. Unlike previous studies that have focused on the establishment of Jonghoe and the literary characteristics of Jonghoesi, this research provides a comprehensive analysis of how Jonghoesi contributed to clan-based scholarly discourse and literary transmission, thereby clarifying the academic and ethical functions of Jonghoe in a more integrated manner. This study thus contributes to revealing that Jonghoe was not merely a space for social interactions but played a crucial role in reinforcing scholarly continuity and ethical practice in Joseon-era clan society. Future research should explore comparative analyses of Jonghoe and Jonghoesi from different clans to offer a more multifaceted understanding of scholarly activities and literary transmission in Joseon-era clan society. This study lays the foundation for a systematic comprehension of the practical transmission of scholarship and ethics in the Joseon Dynasty’s clan-based communities.
